[The systemic disorder of connective tissue metabolism and hypoplasia of the nephron elements in hereditary nephritis in children].

Clinical biochemistry and morphological methods were employed to examine 25 children aged 3 to 15 years with hereditary nephritis. Measurements were made of morphological alterations in renal biopsy specimens, excretion with urine of connective tissue metabolites (hydroxyproline, hydroxylysine glycosides, glycosaminoglycans), the level of the same metabolites and characteristic features of the cellular growth of skin fibroblasts in culture. The early stages of nephritis development were marked by hypoplasia of nephron elements, followed by dystrophy and destruction of its ultrastructural elements including collagen of the glomerular basal membranes. The status of the skin fibroblast cell culture corresponded with the changes seen in renal cells of mesenchymal origin. The conclusion is made that in children with hereditary nephritis, nephron cells and skin fibroblasts reflect systemic metabolic defect of the connective tissue.

[Characteristics of higher nervous activity in young children, cholesterol metabolism and state of the adrenal cortex].

The relationship was established between cholesterol metabolism, adrenocortical function and the typological features of the higher nervous activity in children. Cholesterol metabolism was found to correlate with the type of the higher nervous activity. The children with deficient force and mobility of the nervous processes showed a decrease of glucocorticoid function of the adrenal cortex, proneness to an elevation of the cholesterol level in blood serum and delay of its excretion with feces. This dictates the necessity of developing special diets for the group of children under consideration.

[Hydroxyproline and acid glycosaminoglycans in acute cerebral circulatory disorders].

In patients with acute disorders of cerebral circulation dynamic examinations of hydroxyproline excretion, total content of glycosamineglycans (GAGs) and content of the latters' fractions were carried out. During the first week of the disease the total content of the GAGs in the urine daily portion was found to be increased, this increase being statistically significant and correlating with the size of the expected brain lesion. The fractional spectrum of the GAGs changed towards greater content of sulphonated fractions. By the 3d--5th week of the disease the hydroxyproline concentration in the urine sharply rose, an evidence of the intense organizational processes within the ischemic focus by that time.
