[Idiopathic CD4(+)-T-lymphocytopenia].

Three patients, two men aged 27 and 33 years and one woman aged 31 years, developed several opportunistic infections without presence of HIV infection. Patient A died after suffering Candida stomatitis, extrapulmonary Mycobacterium avium infection, cytomegalovirus infection and Aspergillus pneumonia; patient B recovered from a disseminated M. kansasii infection; patient C suffered from verrucae planae. These patients had CD4(+)-T lymphocytopenia, a shortage of helper T cells. Idiopathic CD4(+)-T lymphocytopenia is a heterogeneous pathological condition with normal serum immunoglobulin concentrations. Treatment consists of combating and preventing infections.

[Dosage aerosols; problems with the inhalation technic].

The inhalation techniques of 77 patients using a dosing aerosol were videotaped before, immediately after and (in 55 cases) three weeks after they viewed an instruction video tape. The inhalation technique was assessed on 9 points. Before the instruction only 2% had a correct and 49% a completely faulty technique. After instruction, these figures were 65% and 13%, respectively. After three weeks, 12% were found to have regressed to only partially correct use.

Primary non-Hodgkin lymphoma of the lung.

We present a 49-year-old man, in whom chest X-ray showed multiple, ill-defined densities in both lungs. Diagnosis was obtained by means of examination of biopsy specimens from a thoracotomy. By means of immunohistochemical techniques, monoclonal lymphoid cells were demonstrated. This finding is conclusive of a diagnosis of malignant lymphoma. Due to the multiple localizations, surgical extirpation and radiotherapy were not feasible. The patient was given chlorambucil for 5 months, followed by six courses of cyclophosphamide, vincristine and prednisone.
