[The role of biochemical study of the saliva in diagnosing diseases].

Mixed saliva contains numerous biological molecules which participate in regulation of the functions of the major physiological systems or are products of their work. Therefore, salivary components reflect the status of body systems and can provide diagnostic information about their abnormalities.

[The characteristics of the lecithin-cholesterol-acyltransferase reaction in the blood serum during liver regeneration].

The rate of cholesterin ether formation in blood serum during the periods of rapid recovery of liver mass decreases after partial hepatectomy in rats. This effect is connected with the changes in quantity and composition of lecithin cholesterin acyltransferase (LCAT) as well the kinetic characteristics of lipoprotein of high density. This ferment was isolated from blood serum and purified in 28,500 times at different periods of liver regeneration. A conclusion concerning the presence of reverse dependence between the pronounced regeneration processes in liver and LCAT activity at high level of nonetherificated cholesterin in substrate has been drawn. Some recommendations for LCAT activity reducing processes in liver are given.

[Status of the pituitary-adrenal system and biogenic amine levels after extensive resection of the intestines].

A clinico-experimental investigations for the determination of contents of serotonin, histamine, 11-OCS and ACTH in blood as well as excretion of adrenaline and noradrenaline after extensive resection of the intestine are described. It was shown that the dynamics of contents of biologically active substances in the blood depended on the level of resection and terms after operation. Extensive resection of the intestine is followed by inhibition of the sympatho-adrenal system resulting in reduction of noradrenaline in blood and its excretion with increased excretion of adrenaline.

[Action of cytoplasmic factors from the regenerating liver on cholesterol esterification in the blood serum of rats with tetrachloromethane liver damage].

The effect of proliferation stimulating factors (PSF) obtained from regenerating liver on the cholesterol esterification in blood serum under deep tetrachloromethane intoxication has been studied in experiments with white rats. Three phases in dynamics of cholesterol content in blood serum have been picked out after a single tetrachloromethane injection. The content of total cholesterol and cholesterol esters reduces during the first phase (24 h), during the second phase (3-7th day) it increases and during the third phase (15th day) these values become normal. PSF injection does not produce any influence on the nature of blood cholesterol under deep tetrachloromethane intoxication, but stimulates the processes of cholesterol ester formation in blood serum.

[Changes in enzyme activity as affected by ultrasound in different functional states of the liver].

Simultaneous determination of aldolase fructose-1-phosphate activity in the liver and blood plasma of experimental rats gives possibility to judge of histohaematic permeability of liver barriers. The presence and advancement of the pathological process in liver is characterized by acid maltase activity. Normalization of histohaematic barrier permeability is observed after ultrasonic action of 0.2 wt/cm2 intensity on the liver area in experimentally induced immunological hepatitis.

[Histamine and the acid-secreting function of the stomach in patients with duodenal ulcer after organ-sparing operations].

Under study were 120 patients. It was established that the concentration of histamine in the blood of patients with the ulcer disease of the duodenum was not dissimilar of that in healthy people and could not be responsible for secretory disorders. Organ-preserving operations were found to considerably change the secretory function of the stomach without being followed by changes of the histamine concentration in blood. The histamine stimulation used for diagnostic purposes in ulcer disease of the duodenum is thought to be not expedient.
