Thalicosides A1-A3, minor cycloartane bisdesmosides from Thalictrum minus.

Three new cycloartane bisdesmosides, two of which are based on a new genin, were isolated from the above-ground parts of Thalictrum minus. Thalicosides A1-A3 (1-3) were characterized as 3-O-beta-D-galactopyranosyl-29-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-3beta,16beta++ +, 29-trihydroxy-22(S),25-epoxycycloartane (1); 3-O-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl-29-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-3beta,1 6beta, 29,22(S)-tetrahydroxycycloart-24-ene (2); and 3-O-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl-29-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-3beta,1 6beta, 29-trihydroxy-22(S),25-epoxycycloartane (3), respectively. The structural assignments of these new compounds were based on interpretation of spectroscopic data. Thalicoside A2 showed in vitro inhibition of the fungus Candida albicans and also activity against Staphylococcus aureus.

The elucidation of the structure of thalicoside F, A. minor oleanane glycoside from Thalictrum minus L.

A new triterpenoid saponin, thalicoside F was isolated from the above-ground part of Thalictrum minus L. (Ranunculaceae family) collected in Eastern Siberia (Russia). The structure of thalicoside F was elucidated by a combination of 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopy and mass spectroscopy, and was determined to be C47H74O17{3-beta-O-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->2)-beta-D- glucopyranosyl-(1-->4)-alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl]-11 alpha, 12 alpha-epoxyoleanane-28,13 beta-olide}.

[The physicochemical evaluation of the bile using infrared spectroscopy].

Native bile, inspissated bile, and cholesterol choleliths were examined by infrared spectroscopy. Model compounds spectra were compared with native bile spectra. The spectra were divided into 3 groups: with acid fragments or cholesterol groups predominating and intermediate group. The peak of 3620 cm-1, absent in normal human bile and liable to augment if acid fragment level reduced was detected. The authors suggest a technique of infrared spectroscopy permitting early detection of disordered physicochemical characteristics of the bile in the course of cholesterol cholelithiasis development.

[Wedge pressure in the pulmonary vein and artery].

Analysis of the results of measurements of the pressure in pulmonary veins and left auricle in 143 patients with mitral stenosis during the operation and the registration of the wedge pressure in the pulmonary veins during catheterization in 62 of 105 patients of another group enabled the authors to conclude that there was no autonomous pulsation of the pulmonary veins. The pressure after occlusion with a catheter of the pulmonary vein branches and the pulmonary artery does not reflect the true hemodynamic condition in the occlusion basin. The data obtained should be considered as artificial phenomena determined by the method islet.

[Comparative study of immunomodulating effects of natural experimental preparations on phagocytosis of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis].

To correct defects of the body's phagocytic system, the authors used experimental agents, such as vital activity products of plant cells, which were obtained by biotechnology. These included arabinogalactan, syringin, K-212, and DFEGP. The study agents activate the oxidative metabolism of macrophages, the production of active forms of oxygen, and thus enhance its bactericidal effect against Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. Syringin and arabinogalactan produce a more pronounced stimulating macrophageal effect in Yersinia pseudotuberculosis phagocytosis than do K-212 and DFEGP. The findings indicate that further studies of the effects of these tested and other agents on humoral and cellular immunity are required.

[Preclinical toxicologic study of a Baikal aconite tincture (bayacon)].

The safety of bayacon, a new drug based on Baikal aconite intended for the treatment of inflammation-proliferative dermatitis (psoriasis), was studied on a preclinical level. With respect to a single introduction in rats and mice, the drug is classified as a low-toxicity substance. However, a 3-month oral administration of bayacon (0.25, 0.5, and 2.5 mg/kg) in rats showed a number of dose-dependent functional and morphological changes. A dose of 2.5 mg/kg induced weak hyporegenerative anemia, neutrophile leukocytosis, and dystrophic changes in the stomach mucosa, heart, liver, and kidneys. All these symptoms disappeared within two weeks after abolition of the drug. Oral administration of bayacon (0.1 and 0.5 mg/kg) in rabbits produced no pathological morphofunctional changes in the organs and tissues studied. In rats, bayacon 2.5, 0.5, and 0.25 mg/kg doses of bayacon led to dose-dependent changes in some characteristics of the reproduction system. The drug did not influence the expression of allergic reactions and showed no immunotoxicity and mutagenicity manifestations.

[Brevikarin dihydrochloride--a new original anti-arrhythmia agent].

On six models of arrhythmias of atrial and ventricular types (induced by administration of aconitine, chlorcalcium, chlorbarium, strophanthin, chloroform-adrenaline and by coronary occlusion) it was shown that in rats, cats and rabbits the antiarrhythmic, preventive and relieving activity of brevicarine dichlorhydrate exceeded that of quinidine, novocainamide and lidocaine in power by 3-5 times and in duration by 3-18 times.
