A versatile and convenient protocol for the stereocontrolled synthesis of olefinic insect pheromones.

A combination of the Horner-Emmons synthesis of alkyl 2,4-dienoates with their hydrogenation over complex L.Cr(CO)3 catalysts (L = 3CO or arene) provides a versatile, stereocontrolled and operationally simple approach to the (Z)-disubstituted, (Z)-trisubstituted, (E)-trisubstituted alkenes and skipped (Z,Z)-disubstituted diolefins with a homoallylic type of functionally. This protocol, sometimes supplemented by an enzymatic hydrolysis, was successfully applied to the synthesis of configurationally pure (gp > or = 98%) pheromones of the furniture carpet beetle, dry bean beetle, rusty grain beetle, square-necked grain beetle and a trail-following pheromone mimic for subterranean termites.

[Operative evaluation of the components of heat exchange and the indicators of the heat comfort levels in humans].

The article contains description of a microcomputer programme for express detection of all the constituent components of heat exchange and the generalized index for man's heat comfort levels. The proposed technique was intended for assessments of working zones related to industrial sites and technological equipment, and based on P. Fanger's methodology used in the ICO-7730 international standard. The technique included a series of the mathematical correlations in man's heat exchange indices and the integral characteristics of heat comfort, in combination with the overall parameters of the microclimate.

[X-ray and radionuclide studies of bones and joints in psoriasis].

Radiography of the bones and joints was performed in 133 psoriatic patients; osteoscintigraphy with 99mTc-phosphate compounds was also performed in 42 of them. On the basis of x-ray findings 3 types of osteoarticular psoriasis were singled out: psoriatic polyarthritis, psoriatic polyarthrosis and psoriatic arthropathy. The most ample information on the type, activity and spreading of a pathological process in the bones and joints in psoriasis can be obtained from the combination of the x-ray and radionuclide methods.

[The x-ray semeiotics of spinal involvement in psoriasis].

X-ray examinations of the bone and joint system in psoriasis patients with pain syndromes in the limb joints have revealed spinal involvement in many cases. The authors have distinguished and described x-ray semeiotics of the inflammatory (spondylitis, spondyloarthritis, sacroiliitis), degenerative dystrophic (intervertebral osteochondrosis, spondylarthrosis deformans, spondylosis), and mixed or combined (inflammatory + degenerative dystrophic) involvements of the spine in psoriasis.

[Structure of the anxious-delusional syndrome of schizophrenic patients during treatment with anxiolytics].

To study a correlation between anxiety and delirium, 50 schizophrenic patients with the anxiety-delirious syndrome were treated with anxiolytics (leponex and phenazepam). The results were evaluated with the help of a special graded scale. The first control group consisted of 20 patients with vascular and organic psychoses with the anxiety-delirious syndrome who were treated by phenazepam. The second control group was composed of 20 schizophrenics with analogous symptomatology treated by traditional neuroleptics (haloperidol and tisercin). In many patients reduction of anxiety closely and directly correlated with that of delirium, which evidenced the leading role of anxiety in the structure of the syndrome in those patients. It has been demonstrated that in patients of this group treatment with antianxiety drugs is more effective than that with conventional neuroleptics. The diazepam test is proposed as a method of predicting the effect of anxiolytic therapy.

["Gas syndrome" in closed chest trauma].

The authors describe the mechanisms of development, clinical picture and treatment of the following variants of the "gaseous syndrome": emphysema of the chest wall, acute diffuse interstitial pulmonary emphysema and acute strained mediastinal emphysema.
