Acute erythroblastic leukemia. Cytological, cytogenetic and phenotypic studies in one case.

We report the clinical, cytological, immunophenotypic, and cytogenetic findings in one patient with acute erythroblastic leukemia. Blast cells were identified by their reactivity with the early erythroid antibodies FA6-152 and carbonic anhydrase I. The leukemic blasts had no specific differentiating features identifying them as erythroblasts even at an ultrastructural level. Cytogenetic studies revealed multiple chromosome aberrations: 45,XX,i(11q),-16,-17,-21,+der(21)t(21;?)(q22;?),+mar 1.

Aged↗

Philadelphia-positive acute myelomonocytic leukemia with inversion of chromosome 16 and eosinobasophils.

Cytogenetic studies in a case of acute nonlymphocytic leukemia, type M4-FAB with eosinophilia, showed an acquired abnormal karyotype characterized by both a t(9;22) Philadelphia translocation and a pericentric inversion of chromosome 16, inv(16)(p13q22). This unique case shows that the previously described association between inversion of chromosome 16 and myelomonocytic leukemia with bone marrow eosinophilia is true also in Philadelphia-positive disorders. The present findings are consistent with the existence of a group of chromosome anomalies, namely t(15;17) and inv(16), which are specifically associated with one single stage of morphological differentiation of myeloid leukemic cells.

Basophils↗

Burkitt-type ALL with variant t(2;8) and complex additional rearrangements at diagnosis.

We describe a case of Burkitt-type acute lymphoblastic leukemia (L3 according to the classification FAB) with a variant t(2;8)(p12;q24) and additional chromosomal abnormalities at diagnosis. The karyotype was 47,X,Xq+,t(2;8)(p12;q24),7q+,12p+,+mar. The literature on chromosome rearrangements associated with t(2;8) in L3 leukemias has been reviewed.
