An unusual case of recurrent cranial flap infection is described. The infection was traced to the growth of implanted skin in the galea associated with growth of hair and accumulation of keratinous debris in the subgaleal space. Factors governing the implantation of cutaneous elements and their subsequent fate are examined in detail in the light of experimental and clinical observations.
