[The role of imitation in suicidal behavior].

The authors analyse the modelling effect of the suicide of the first Hungarian beauty queen. After the publication of a book, a film and the newspapers about her suicide increased significantly the number of suicides committed by young females by the same method (Lidocain pill). During this period the consumption of Lidocain pills decreased in Hungary. The monthly and seasonal fluctuation of suicides committed by other methods is different from these changes. The suicide of celebrities mediated by the mass media can become modell through identification for a people in crisis situation.

Toxicological analysis of amobarbital and glutethimide from bone tissue.

Author examined cadaver organs and bone samples (sternum, rib) of drug poisoning cases. Following suitable procedures, active drug components (amobarbital, glutethimide, and so forth) were identified by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Based on results of quantitative GC analysis, relationships were sought between the active agent concentrations measured in the organs and the bone samples.

Comparative pyrogen reactivity of rabbit and man to human albumin and immunoglobulin solutions.

According to the prescriptions of the Hungarian Pharmacopoeia regarding the pyrogenicity of human albumin and immunoglobulin solutions, the temperature increase should not exceed 0.5 degrees C in rabbits. If the average rise in temperature of rabbits is between 0.6 to 1.1 degrees C, the preparation--in other respects meeting the requirements--can be tested in man (generally 20 persons per preparation). Products causing an average rise in temperature less than 0.6 degrees C and provoking individual rises of temperature below 1 degrees C in man, can be issued. On the basis of these data going back for many years, no reliable correlation could be found between the pyrogen test in rabbits and temperature rise in man. The same preparation which failed to pass the rabbit pyrogen test proved to be apyrogenic in man.

Distribution of HB antigen carriers in the population of Budapest aged 0 to 85 years.

The authors investigated serum samples of 5,000 inhabitants aged 0-85 years in a crowded industrial area, by means of the counterimmunoelectrophoretic method. They evaluate their results in relation to age, sex and occupation. They compare them with data of Hungarian and several other authors. Some possible reasons of the differences are discussed and the importance of non-parenteral transmission is emphasized.

The authors investigated serum samples of 5000 inhabitants (age 0 to 85 years) in a crowded industrial area, by means of the counterimmunoelectrophoretic method. They evaluate their results in relation of age, sex and occupation and presented literary data about the subtypes of the carriers in Budapest. They compared them with data of Hungarian and several other authors respectively. Some possible reasons of the differences are discussed and the importance of the non-parental transmission is emphasized.

Toxicological analysis of lidocaine in biological materials by using HPLC.

A rapid and reliable method to analyze lidocaine in biological materials was developed using column extraction method and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Two peaks for lidocaine and procaine as an internal standard (IS) were separated clearly with no interfering peaks appearing in the chromatogram. The annual change of lidocaine caused intoxications was described. From medico-legal aspects, the method was applied to authentic samples from autopsied victims and concentrations of lidocaine in 29 cases were evaluated briefly.
