Immunoreactive trypsin in serum and peritoneal fluid in acute pancreatitis.

High levels of immunoreactive cathodal trypsin are shown to be present in serum and peritoneal fluid in acute pancreatitis. The immunoreactive material is contained in two fractions with different molecular weights: free trypsinogen and trypsin in complex with protease inhibitors, mainly alpha1-antitrypsin. The presence of trypsin in complex with protease inhibitors indicates the formation of active trypsin during acute pancreatitis.

Acute Disease↗

Elevated fecal levels of endogenous pancreatic endopeptidases after antibiotic treatment.

Feces from normal and antibiotic-treated persons were analyzed for the content of immunoreactive trypsin and elastase. In the control group the mean concentration of immunoreactive trypsin was 13 microgram per g feces as compared to 147 in the antibiotic-treated group. Elastase was demonstrable in only 3 of 30 samples in the control group but in 20 of 26 in the antibiotic-treated group. The decreased inactivation of pancreatic proteases must depend on an altered intestinal microflora. The results suggest that reestablishment of a normal enteric flora may take months after the short time oral administration of antibiotics.

Radioimmunological determination and characterization of cathodal trypsin-like immunoreactivity in normal human plasma.

A radioimmunological method for determination of human cathodal trypsin-like immunoreactivity is described. DFP-treated human cathodal trypsin is used as standard and tracer. Freshly drawn normal human plasma contains about 25 microgram/l of cathodal trypsin-like immunoreactivity measured as DFP-treated cathodal trypsin. The normally circulating cathodal trypsin-like immunoreactivity is shown to consist mainly of cathodal trypsinogen.

Digitized intra-operative video-fluoroscopy cholangiography. An analysis of 100 cases.

Experience is reported of intra-operative fluoroscopy in 100 cholecystectomized patients using bilateral video- and tele-communicating systems between the surgeon and the conducting radiologist. The radiologist's guidance and the surgeon's realtime observation of the intra-operative study together with reduction in the mean operation time constitute the main advantages of this technique.
