A case of melanosis oculi with malignant melanoma of the choroid.

Description of one case of melanocytosis oculi with malignant melanoma of the choroid of the same eye in a white patient. Microscopical examination confirmed the clinical diagnosis. Recent statistical work which shows that the risk of uveal melanoma is greater in patients with melanocytosis oculi than in the normal white population is recalled.

Central pharmacological activities and opiate receptor binding studies of some dermorphin analogs.

A series of dermorphin-like compounds were injected intracerebroventricularly in the rat to assess in vivo their effects on intestinal motility and analgesia. In vitro they were tested by binding assay using 3H-naloxone as radioligand or by guinea pig ileum bioassay. The synthetic peptides were less potent than dermorphin in inhibiting intestinal transit and in producing analgesia, or even inactive up to doses 30 times the dermorphin ED50. This reduction in pharmacological activity was coupled with a decrease in binding potency. The 3H-naloxone binding studies in the absence or presence of Na+ indicated that Na+ reduced the interaction of dermorphin and its analogs with brain opiate receptors. Only the dibenzyl derivative was slightly affected by sodium, suggesting a dual action for this peptide, as confirmed by preliminary data from guinea pig ileum bioassay.

Further investigations on serum ultrafiltrate as medium for tissue respiration in vitro.

Serum ultrafiltrate was shown to be able to sustain in vitro the oxygen consumption of various tissue slices, attaining values very close to those reached in vivo. Serum ultrafiltrate also exerted its stimulating effect on homogenate, and maintained this activity for some time, after dilution, after lyophilization and after boiling; finally it was not species-specific. Serum ultrafiltrate was also more efficient than Eagle's Minimum Essential Medium in supporting tissue respiration. Preliminary data, obtained from gel fractionating serum ultrafiltrate, suggested that the metabolic activity should be ascribed to a sum of small single effects due to the single fractions of serum ultrafiltrate.

[Amineptine and depressive symptoms, cardiovascular and ophthalmological acceptabilities (author's transl)].

Amineptine is a new compound derived from the tricyclic antidepressants whose mechanism of action is mainly dopaminergic. In a clinical open trial, fifty patients suffering from neurotic, reactive and psychotic depression have been treated by 231 mg/day +/- 7 (mean +/- SEM) during 30 days. Results were assessed from Hamilton Rating Scale for depression before treatment and on D7, D14, D30. Cardiovascular and ophthalmological acceptability is discussed.
