[Histological patterns with prognostic significance in neuroblastoma].

The authors report the results of a statistical study on the correlations of survival in 41 children with neuroblastoma. After pointing out the significance of some clinical data, they emphasize the histological findings that may give an indication of the behavior of the tumor, i.e. the degree of differentiation and lymphocytic infiltration of the neoplastic tissue. Indeed, statistically significant differences were found between dead and surviving children as regards these findings (p less than 0.001). The authors also point out that the degree of cell differentiation is determined by the number of maturating cells and not by the number of completely mature cells.

Histopathological study of an imperfect type ganglioneuroblastoma.

Based on their observations, the authors stress the occurrence of 2 histological varieties of ganglioneuroblastoma; the former characterized by a combination of undifferentiated with mature typical ganglion cells, the latter revealing a combination of undifferentiated with pleomorphic atypical cells. After demonstrating the ganglion origin of pleomorphic cells, attention is focused on the difficulties involved in the diagnosis of the second type of ganglioneuroblastoma, which in the author's view should be included in the present classifications of ANS tumors.

[Histological study of the coronary arteries during the first six months of life (author's transl)].

The Authors report on the results of a preliminary study on the histological aspects of the coronary arteries during the first six months in the life of the infant. After having reviewed the data relative to the distribution according to sex and age, the causes of death and the localization of the alterations, they draw attention to the discordant opinions still held to date on the pathogenetical interpretations of the medical reports under their observation particularly in reference to the connections with coronary arteriosclerosis in the adult.

[Paucity of interlobular bile ducts in twins and maternal abuse of psychopharmaceuticals during pregnancy].

We report the case of twins with intrahepatic cholestasis in "paucity of interlobular bile ducts". Both the children presented an associated cardiac defect even if dissimilar and a transient tubulopathy. Despite the presence of these alterations we suppose that these cases can be included among the group of rare nonsyndromic paucity of interlobular bile ducts. The different extent of the pathology in the two patients suggest a toxic etiology which could have struck more severely the twin who were less protected by the utero-placental barrier. In the literature reports we found some cases of extrahepatic biliary atresia related with maternal amphetamine addiction, but no cases of intrahepatic atresia. As during pregnancy the mother had abused of a number of drugs and in particular of amphetamine, we suppose that the amphetamine addiction can account for the hepatic pathology.
