The authors report a case of left common iliac artery injury, as a complication of diskectomy, in a 57 year-old male patient, with herniated disk at L4-L5. A review shows that L4-L5 disk space is the most common site for this rare complication of lumbar disk surgery.
Data concerning a preliminary study on the prognostic significance of inflammatory infiltration in cerebral metastases are reported. Seventeen cases of operated cerebral metastases have been studied to investigate their histotype and grade of necrosis, stromal reaction, and inflammatory infiltration. Finally, the results obtained are discussed in relation to the postoperative survival rate of the patients.
The link between blood viscosity, Ht and the onset of stroke is highlighted and reports in the literature are examined. On this basic, the paper proposes an experimental model of cerebral ischaemia in the rabbit as providing a better insight into this aspect which may be highly significant, particularly in the prevention of strokes.

Using an end-to-side microanastomosis of the left common carotid into the right common carotid of rats, implementing a potentially thrombogenic situation, we have investigated the possible antithrombotic effect of indobufen, a new antiplatelet drug. In eight of 15 untreated rats the anastomosis was totally obstructed by a single thrombus growing from the anastomotic wall. Indobufen treatment prevented thrombus formation completely in 14 of 15 rats (p less than 0.02). In treated animals indobufen also produced a statistically significant reduction of ADP-induced platelet aggregation relative to basal values. Platelet count were not influenced by drug treatment. Our experimental results suggest the potential usefulness of indobufen as an antithrombotic agent.

The authors report a series of 71 patients with intracerebral hemorrhage: 57 underwent surgery and 14, although suitable candidates for surgery, refused operation. The results are assessed in relation to the site of the hemorrhage, mode of onset, and interval between accident and operation.
