[Immunoglobulin and lysozyme concentration in the serum of patients with Down's syndrome].

A study of the immunoglobulin level in the 3 main classes (IgG, IgM and IgA) and lysozymes in the blood serum of 73 patients with Down's disease (from 5 to 20 years of age) showed an increase of IgG in the younger age (up to 7 years) and older groups (over 7 years). The content of IgM was significantly lower in the younger group and did not differ from the control indices in the older group. The level of IgA corresponded to normal indices. The studies demonstrated a marked drop in the lysozyme content. The role of the abnormal system of humoral immunity and reactions of nonspecific defense in the formation of predisposition to the development of infectious diseases in this form of pathology is discussed.

[Natural immunity in destructive appendicitis in children].

The activity of natural immunity factors in appendicitis reached its maximum in the period from 24 till 48 hours and then decreased. In most patients with low level of natural immunity preoperative clinical manifestations were less pronounced, the postoperation period being inactive.

[Clinical and laboratory evaluation of the results of treating trophic ulcers of the lower extremities with a catgut dressing].

To assess the effect of the catgut dressing in trophic ulcers of the lower extremities upon the dynamics of non-specific immunological reactivity the authors defined the complementary activity of the serum, concentration of the serumal lysozyme and contents of thermolabile inhibitors of the serum. The clinical and laboratory findings prove that the use of the cargut dressing in trophic ulcers of the lower extremities increases the level of non-specific immunological reactivity of an organism. The use of catgut for the therapeutic purposes stimulates the condition of natural immunity which constitutes one of the causes contributing to a favourable course of the healing processes.

[Natural resistance of the body in appendicular peritonitis in children].

It is found that in appendicular peritonitis, as the inflammatory process progresses, the protective functions of the organism are lowered, and the intensity of inflammatory changes is increased. The determination of the natural resistance status of the body in peritonitis in children may be used for an objective estimation of the process course, the efficacy of therapeutic measures and prognostication.
