[Percutaneous treatment of tumors of the upper urinary tract].

In our Institution, 23 patients were selected for percutaneous resection of tumors of the upper urinary tract. Two patients underwent a second procedure: the first for ipsilateral recur and the second for an heterolateral tumor. Among these 23 patients, 11 presented a benign tumor, 9 were treated for a transitional carcinoma of whom 2 invasive state. Both underwent a nephro-ureterectomy. For the 7 superficial transitional carcinomas, the mean follow-up period is 30.4 months. The ipsilateral local recurrencee is 14.3% (1/7), and concern a poorly differentiated tumor (G III). The advantage of the endoscopic techniques to explore and treat the upper urinary tract tumors is double. With these techniques, we can diagnose and treat adequately benign tumors which don't justify radical surgery. In the case of transitional tumors, the percutaneous way is an acceptable method of management when it appears better to avoid a radical treatment (solitary kidney, bilateral synchronous tumors, impairment of total renal function, general injuries). However, it must be performed only in selected cases, and patients should be carefully selected.

Aged

[Radio-urodynamic study of the lower urinary tract].

Radio-urodynamic examination of the lower urinary tract is the best method to study the complex functional problems involving those structures. It will very often provide a correct diagnostic orientation in a single session. The main indications are (1) urinary incontinence when symptoms are unclear, or recurring after surgical correction, (2) neurogenic bladder dysfunction, (3) incipient obstructive uropathy and (4) when it is necessary to ascertain that micturition is normal. The necessary investment in personnel, time and material is considerable, and the indications are therefore to be limited to complex problems and to certain centers that have a special clinical and research interest in urodynamics. It is nevertheless highly justified by the improvement in therapeutic results engendered by a correct and precise diagnosis.

Humans

[Functional tests for true urinary incontinence in women (author's transl)].

Urinary incontinence is looked at from a functional point of view. It occurs when there is lack of equilibrium between the resistance of the sphincters and the expulsive force of the bladder. The classical features given in the history and in a clinical examination can only suggest an incomplete evaluation of the problem and this is sometimes wrong in respect to the dynamic control of micturition. The traps are briefly reviewed. Functional tests allow objective analysis of the behaviour of the bladder and its sphincters. They are the subject of this study (combined radio-urodynamic tests).

Electromyography

[Axial computer tomography in acute and chronic pancreatitis (author's transl)].

The diagnostic value of the whole body computer tomography for evaluation of pancreatic disease is reported. In 64% of the cases with pancreatitis anomalies were detected. In pancreatitis an increase as well as a diminution of the volume of the pancreatic gland can be encountered; both features can be detected by computer tomography. Detection of pancreatic tumors in the initial stage and differentiation from pancreatitis by computer tomography remains difficult.
