[Changes in rheological properties of blood in patients with chronic glomerulonephritis].

The study of rheological blood properties in patients with chronic glomerulonephritis (CGN) demonstrates an increase in red blood cells aggregation and blood viscosity 3-4-fold while red blood cells deformability is two times less compared to healthy subjects. These findings well correlated with plasma fibrinogen and protein/lipid ratio of plasma and red blood cells. The highest informative value is associated with middle-sized and maximum-sized red blood cells aggregates which are significally related with a clinical form of the disease and its activity. The evidence obtained in the study is indicative of profound microcirculatory abnormalities in CGN patients necessitating administration of active antiaggregate therapy.

Adolescent

[Functional and structural changes in the surface of human erythrocytes after UV irradiation with rays of various wavelengths. IV. Changes in the physicochemical properties of autotransfused UV-irradiated blood].

Properties of erythrocyte surface were investigated for patients with ischemic heart disease in the course of treatment with the UV-irradiated blood autotransfusion (UVIBA). Application of methods of light-scattering, photometry and cytochemistry revealed rapid and significant changes in deformability and aggregation properties of the erythrocytes immediately following each UVIBA procedure, which was accompanied by considerable blood viscosity decrease.

Absorption

[Changes in the ionization equilibrium of erythrocyte suspension under heating].

The effects of ionic strength, urea, calcium and fluorine ions, ouabain and cholinesterase inhibitors on the changes in the ionization equilibrium of an erythrocyte suspension under heating were studied. Proton release by erythrocytes was compared to a release of potassium ions and hemoglobin from the cells. The proton release under heating is mainly determined by the physico--chemical properties of superficial structures of erythrocytes and does not depend on the activity of cholinesterase, ATPase and glycolytic processes.

Adenosine Triphosphatases

[Effect of diazepam on the properties of an erythrocyte-plasma protein complex and the development of shock during the transfusion of heterogenic blood].

Preliminary administration of 2 mg/kg of diazepam eliminated the pyrogenic reaction and increased survival of rabbits following intravenous injection of cat blood to them. A study of physico-chemical properties of the blood by measurement of the ionization balance in thermal denaturing demonstrated that injection of heterogenous blood to rabbits and suspension of rabbit erythrocytes in cat plasma in vitro led to a sharp reduction of the rate of proton binding with plasma proteins in the presence of foreign erythrocytes. Preliminary administration of diazepam to rabbits, and diazepam addition to the cat plasma in vitro prevented such changes and promoted retention of normal blood properties. Addition of diazepam in a concentration of about 10--4 M to the heterogenous plasma decreased erythrocyte agglutination considerably.

Animals

[Microcirculatory changes in poisoning by phosphoorganic cholinesterase inhibitors].

Experiments were conducted on rats and rabbits; a quantitative study was made of the microcirculation, of some indices of gaseous exchange and of the acid-base balance of the blood in poisoning with phosphorus organic cholinesterase inhibitors of peripheral action GA-70. The results obtained were compared and microcirculation disturbances were found to play the leading role in the GA-70-hypoxia developing in intoxication.

Acid-Base Equilibrium

[Effect of 1,4-benzodiazepine derivatives on the toxic action of oxygen under increased pressure].

The 1,4-benzodiazepine derivatives (diazepam, nitrazepm, lorazepam, clonazepam and two newly synthetized compounds of this series) increase the resistance of albino rats and rabbits to the toxic effect of oxygen under high pressure (7 and 5.5 atm respectively). The compounds under study are apt to avert over a long period the development of metabolic acidosis which appears following the action of high-pressure oxygen on the body.

Acid-Base Equilibrium

[Proton acceptor properties of the blood plasma of a series of vertebrates].

Comparative studies have been made on the kinetics of thermal denaturation of the blood plasma of various vertebrates (lampreys, teleosts, frogs, tortoises, pigeons, mice, rats, rabbits, cats, dogs, man) by measuring ionization equilibrium of protein solution at elevated temperature. It was demonstrated that during the initial stage of heat denaturation at 58 degrees the blood plasma of all the animals studied binds protons practically linearly. Among the animals studied, the highest protonoacceptor capacity exhibited the plasma of warm-blooded animals; it was lower in tortoises frogs and teleost fishes, being the lowest one in lampreys. Comparison of total electric charge of plasma proteins evaluated by potentiometric titration with data on thermal denturation of plasma revealed positive correlation between the charge and protonoacceptor properties of the plasma.
