Lymphangiomatosis of bone and soft tissue (results of lymphangiographic examinations).

The results of clinical roentgenologic examination of 2 patients with lymphangiomatosis are discussed. The analysis of angiographic findings has shown that arteries and veins remained unchanged in affected area. Lymphography revealed fully changed lymphatics in affected areas. Numerous markedly dilated lymph vessels and cystic cavities of different shape and size were noted. In bony spongiosus substance the fissural spaces were filled with oily contrast medium. Roentgenologically, they appeared as numerous small conglomerates limited to bone contours.

[Metastasis of prostatic cancer (based on lymphographic data)].

A lymphographic examination of 56 patients with prostatic carcinoma established the incidence of lymphogenous metastases for different stages of primary tumor advancement: there were no metastases in patients with stage I tumors; metastases were found in 3 out of 16 cases of stage II tumors; in 4 out of 12 with stage III tumors and in 13 out of 21 patients with stage IV tumors. The prevalent site of prostatic carcinoma metastases were iliac lymph nodes. Indications for lymphographic examination depending on local advancement of tumor process are discussed.

[Immunochemical methods of determining myoglobin in blood and urine].

An immunological method for determining myoglobin in biological liquids has been developed. Application of tritiated myoglobin in radioimmunoassay (RIA) opens up an opportunity to create a Soviet long stored RIA kit. The use of the antibody neutralization test to detect hypermyoglobulinemia and myoglobinuria in myocardial infarction patients is characterized by simplicity, little time consuming, and may be used in practical medicine as a preliminary test in timely diagnosis of myocardial infarction.

[Frequency and ways of filling lymph nodes above the diaphragm with contrast medium during anterograde lymphography of the thoracic duct].

The data on contrast radiography of the lymph nodes situated above the diaphragm have been obtained in 246 out of 342 patients subject to the investigation of their normal thoracic ducts. It has been stated that the contrast picture of the lymph nodes situated far from the thoracic duct (peritracheal, bronchopulmonary, bifurcational and anterior mediastinum) is the most difficult to obtain. Retrograde filling of the supraclavicular, posterior inferior diaphragmal intercostal nodes with the contrast material occurs more often via the deferent lymphatic vessels which get into the thoracic duct. Besides, the frequency on simultaneous filling with the contrast material of various groups of the lymph nodes along the course of the thoracic duct has been studied. It has been stated that in 46.7% of the patients only one group of the lymph nodes become contrasted, less often--2 (23.1%) and still less often--3-4 groups (14.2% and 10.2% respectively). For the first time the intercalated lymph nodes along the course of the thoracic duct have been described; they are filled with the contrast substance anterogradelly via short connective branches.

[Role of lymphography in determining a lymph flow blockage and the level of lympholymphatic shunting in edema of the extremities].

Different lymphographic methods were used for determining the disturbances of the lymph flow and the levels of the lympho-lymphatic shunts in 139 patients having edema of the upper (70) and lower (69) extremities. A conclusion is made that the generally accepted method of lymphography by means of the administration of a contrast substance into the vessels of one collector in some cases can not reveal the first symptoms of partial block of the lymph flow in clinical manifestation of edema. The successive lymphography of several collectors is necessary. With its aid the author has found that under normal conditions and in mild edemas they fulfil drainage separately, and in the expanded zone of edema they compensate the activity of one another.

[Secondary (radiation) edemas of the extremities].

The results of clinical examinations and treatment of 96 patients with secondary (radiation) edemas of the extremities developing in late terms after radiation therapy of malignant tumors are discussed. The edema genesis is associated both with immediate radiation damage of lymph and blood vessels (veins), and with fibrous alterations of tissues in the radiation zone.
