[Study of vigilance after ingestion of zopiclone in comparison with nitrazepam and placebo (author's transl)].

Increasing importance is being given to the residual effects of hypnotics on the day following absorption; with zopiclone, a new hypnotic, we have studied vigilance 9, 12 and 15 hours after a single evening dose of 10 mg, on a double-blind basis in comparison with 10 mg of nitrazepam and a placebo. The assessment of vigilance is based on responses to self-rating questionnaires and psychometric tests. Twenty-one healthy subjects forming a homogeneous group as regards age, I.Q., and vigilance were included in this study. Each subject received the three products in random distributed order, with an interval of three months between each trial. The results of these tests reveal modifications which, particularly 9 hours after administration, reflect a modification in vigilance, appearing to be more marked with nitrazepam than with zopiclone. Thus, from the point of view of the residual effects of hypnotics on vigilance, it is possible to position the products tested in the following order: placebo -- zopiclone -- nitrazepam.

[Psychosensorial manifestations observed in psychotic patients treated with betamimetic drugs].

We report four observations of women who had acute or subacute psychotic crisis and who were stabilized without any manifestation. In order to delay delivery these women received during pre-partum high doses of beta-mimetic drugs (isoxsuprine and salbutamol). Such a prescription seems to have been responsible of acute and transient psychotic symptoms similar to those observed in drug-induced psychosis (derealisation preceeding depersonalization, visual and auditory hallucinations, anxiety). Recently Gluckman has described a similar case to those reported here. But in his case the conditions of coming out were different and there was a lack of psychotic antecedents. Previous works concerning "psychotic-like" effects of beta-blokers rise the question of possible psychodysleptic effects of beta-mimetic drugs.

[Psychiatric aspects of Crohn's disease (author's transl)].

We have examined 13 patients suffering from Crohn's disease, almost all of them during an active spell. Three patients had a well-structured personality, four patients an obsessional one, one patient a narcissistic personality, and five patients a passive-dependant personality structure. Four patients seemed depressed and anxious. The texts dealing with the psychological aspects of Crohn's disease acknowledge the influence of a stress as a precipitating factor. Patients' passivity and dependence is an idea emphasized by several authors, and the frequency of obsessive personality traits is pointed out in different studies. In short, no author allows us to conclude formally in favour of a psychosomatic origin of Crohn's disease, which confirms our impression after examination of the patients we have talked with or seen regularly.
