[A familial brain malformation syndrome with symptomatic hypernatremia].

A familial cerebral malformation combined with chronic hypernatremia is reported. We found three children of a Moroccan family with microcephaly and hypoplasia of the frontal brain. The frontal parts of the lateral ventricles were absent. Two of the children had a defect of the midline structures with fusion of the lateral ventricles similar to holoprosencephaly. Further clinical symptoms were generalized spasticity, delay of mental development and hypodipsia.

[Erythroblastosis in a live newborn infant with triploidy--a sequela of fetomaternal macrotransfusion?].

Hematologic changes in an infant, live-born and surviving 46 hours are reported. The main characteristics were a decrease of red blood cells and an increase of mean corpuscular volume and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration. Some morphological abnormalities were found. The smears showed prematurity of the red cells, many of them with degenerative nucleal changes. The described alterations looks like a chronic erythroblastosis. The explanation might be an antepartum feto-maternal transfusion because a great amount of fetal erythrocytes could be found in the maternal blood.

Normal electrocardiogram in guinea pig.

For establishing normal mean values of the parameters of the electrocardiographic curve and their standard deviations 50 male guinea pigs were studied. The directions of temporary vectors of atrial (AP) and ventricular (AQRS) depolarization times, and ventricular repolarization time (AT) were determined, and the position of the heart was evaluated. In all animals limb leads I, II, III, aVR, aVL, aVF were used, and in 38 animals additionally the precordial leads V1, V2, V3, V4, V5, V6 were applied. The investigations were done by a non-invasive method with a specially designed plate making possible immobilization of the animals in supine position under general anaesthesia with urethane. In 10% of the animals abnormalities were detected in the ECG curve and these guinea pigs were eliminated from further analysis. The investigations showed that, after consideration given to the differences in the ECG curves in relation to man, guinea pigs might be used for preclinical cardiological studies.
