[Correlation of lymphocytic infiltration of tumor tissue with the hormonal and metabolic state in patients with breast cancer].

Lymphocyte infiltration of tumor was studied vis-a-vis hormone metabolic status, tumor tissue hormone sensitivity and tobacco smoking, in 113 breast cancer patients, aged 25-77. On the average, no correlation was established between degree of lymphocyte infiltration in breast tumor and age and menopause onset. In smoking menopausal patients, lymphocyte infiltration was found to be higher than in non-smokers (p < 0.05). There was a direct correlation between the rate of lymphocyte infiltration and the level of progesterone receptors in tumor. Some subgroups displayed a direct correlation between infiltration and sex-binding globulin, cholesterol, luteinizing hormone in blood, and lean body mass. It was matched by an inverse correlation between lymphocyte infiltration and blood-thyroid hormone concentration, urine catecholamines and free cortisol excretion and fat/lean body mass ratio. Considering the abovesaid as well as the lymphocyte ability to perform the dual function of immunocytes and hormonocytes, it is suggested that the results may be used in both the study of lymphocyte infiltration and research in means of its control.

[Lymphangioleiomyomatosis].

A case of lymphangioleiomyomatosis of the lungs and lymph nodes of the mediastinum and abdomen concurrent with renal angiomyolipomas and leiomyoma of the uterus is described. A 24-year-old female died of progressive respiratory and cardiac failures caused by proliferation of smooth muscle cells in the bronchi, vessel walls and interalveolar septum with the formation of the honey-comb lung.

[Proliferative activity by expression of antigen Ki-67 in solitary and multiple synchronous epithelial tumors of the colon].

Proliferative activity of sigmoid and rectal mucosa, and that of single and multiple (synchronous) adenomas and adenocarcinomas of the colon has been studied. A significant difference between antigen Ki-67 expression index in normal mucosa, adenomas and adenocarcinomas, and also in single and multiple colorectal cancers has been revealed.

Adenocarcinoma↗

[Melanotic neuroectodermal tumor in a newborn].

The tumor consists of two types of cells: small with abundant processes cells capable of dividing and probably being neuroblasts, and the big melanocytes forming bands and glandular-like structures. Tumor cells (mainly melanocytes) express pancytokeratins, S-100 protein, neuron-specific enolase, synaptophysin and melanin antigen. These data are the additional indication that melanotic neuroectodermal tumor is the derivative of the neural crest.

[Peripheral neuroepithelioma].

Neuroepithelioma of the soft tissues of the right parietotemporal region in the 25-year-old male patient is described. The tumor grew through the cranial bones into the dura mater. The patient died 1.5 months after the appearance of the first clinical signs of the disease of brain edema and invasion of the cerebellum into the great foramen occipitalis with compression of the medulla oblongata. The histological structure of the tumor and expression of neuron-specific enolase, synaptophysin, S-100 protein and glial fibrillary acidic protein by tumor cells prove its neurogenic origin.

[Embolism of the small branches of the pulmonary artery in x-ray endovascular occlusion of the renal vessels in cancer].

The author reports a case of complication of chemoembolization of the kidney arterial bed used in the treatment of kidney carcinoma. The female patient died on the second day after the manipulation because of embolism of the small branches of the pulmonary artery by the particles of the embolisation mixture. The presence of the arterial-venous shunts in the tumor overlooked at the stage of angiography became the most probable cause of the embolism.

[Microscopic identification of melanoma metastases in occult primary tumor].

A case of the metastasis of the tumor with a high degree of anaplasia to the neck lymph nodes is described. Histological features of the neoplasm--a combination of the epithelial-like and fusiform cells, alveolar and individual character of their surrounding by the argyrophil fibers and the presence of fine argyrophil granules in Paskal silvering--allowed to suspect the metastasis of pigment-free malignant melanoma, and to select a small panel of antibodies for immunohistochemical analysis. The expression by the tumor cells of vimentin, S-100 protein and melanoma antigen proved this tumor to be a malignant melanoma metastasis. Location of the primary tumor has not been revealed.
