Synthesis and antitumor activity of new anthracyclines.

New anthracyclines including 2-deoxy-L-fucose, 2-deoxy-L-rhamnose and 2,6-dideoxy-2-iodo-alpha-L-mannose as sugar moieties, respectively 8, 11 and 14, have been obtained by glycosidation of the 4-demethoxy-9-hydroxymethyl-9-deacetyl daunorubicinone (1) with appropriate sugars under Koenigs-Knorr conditions. They were found to display high cytotoxicity on L1210 leukemia, but also an outstanding antileukemic activity in mice in the case of 8 and 14.

hCG-Increased phosphorylation of proteins in primary culture of Leydig cells: further characterization.

Previous studies using monodimensional gel electrophoresis of total cell proteins have shown that hCG was able to increase the phosphorylation of at least 6 proteins in cultured porcine Leydig cells. By using subcellular fractionation and 2D gel electrophoresis, we now show that most of these proteins, whose phosphorylation was increased by hCG, are basic nuclear proteins. In addition, hCG also increases the phosphorylation of microsomal proteins in particular ribosomal protein S6. Moreover no phosphoproteins were detected in the cytosol.

Protein kinase activity tightly bound to liver polysomes.

Rat liver polysomes washed with 0.5-1.5 M KCl at 37 degrees C keep a constant protein kinase activity revealed only by auto-phosphorylation of ribosomal proteins. The enzyme catalyzes the transfer of the gamma-phosphate group from ATP to serine (75%) but also to threonine residues (25%). It is released when polysomes are dissociated into subunits using centrifugation through a sucrose gradient containing a high K+/Mg++ ratio. Its properties have been compared with those of the two other enzymatic activities which are, in contrast, washed out during salt treatment of polysomes. After release upon polysome dissociation, this third activity is able to phosphorylate histone II A. Protection of the enzyme in the polysome structure against salt treatment, suggests that it is located at the junction of the two subunits.

[Alcoholemia and traumatology in S.A.M.U. 42].

This work was carried out over a year on all the wounded patients picked up by the S.A.M.U. 42. Out of 502 interpretable alcoholemic tests 353 positive tests were found (of which 222 were greater than 0.80 g.l-1). The law of July 1978 had no influence on the figures. Thursday is the day when the greatest number of positive alcohol tests were recorded. There is no significant difference between the nocturnal and diurnal results. Pedestrians had an average alcohol blood level which was higher than drivers of automobiles or two wheeled vehicles. Alcoholic excess is found especially in the rural "plain" areas. The unemployed constitute the professional category with the highest alcholemia. Women are more reasonable in their libations. Alcohol is an important factor in the clumsiness which is the origin of worksite accidents. Alcohol encourages suicide attempts. It would seem according to this work that alcoholemia is higher in the region of Saint-Etienne than the national average.
