Idiopathic bladder hyperactivity treated with Ditropan (oxybutynin chloride).

Ditropan (oxybutynin chloride), a tertiary amine with slight anticholinergic and marked "papaverine-like" direct spasmolytic effects has been administered to 25 patients with idiopathic hyperactive bladder function. The drug reduced voiding frequency and abolished urgency. Control cystometry confirmed a significant increase in bladder capacity. Oral dryness was a tolerable side effect.

Plasminogen activator and plasmin-like activities in experimental rat tumours.

Plasminogen activator activity and plasmin-like amidolytic activity were investigated in two experimental rat tumours, using human plasminogen and chromogenic peptide substrate, S-2251. The invasive hepatocarcinoma and non-invasive nephroma were induced with the same chemical carcinogen, dimethylnitrosamine, in F-344 rats and they were continuously transplanted under the renal capsule. While there was no difference in plasmin-like activities of the tumours, the plasminogen activator activity was very low in the nephroma, but high in the hepatocarcinoma. Since the activator activity was completely inhibited by amiloride, it was considered to be of urokinase-type. These results were in accordance with the assumed role of urokinase in the invasion. However, of the respective control organ, kidney was rich in both activities but rat liver contained only very low activities. Therefore the comparison of the plasminogen activator activity of a tumour to the control organ probably does not provide information concerning the malignant transformation as it is suggested in the literature.

Pre- and postoperative examinations in intestinal tumours of the pelvis.

Pre- and postoperative urological and lower urinary tract urodynamic studies were made in patients operated for intestinal tumours of the pelvis. It was established that urological complications often arise and they often escape detection during the examination or under the conventional surgical care. An examination and a control scheme is recommended for the early detection of the possible complications and for starting an adequate treatment in due time.

[Bilateral papillary cystadenoma of the epididymis].

One case of bilateral papillary cystadenoma of the epididymis without the development of Hippel--Lindau disease is reported. This rare, benign tumour should be considered in the differential diagnostics of the enlargment of the epidimdyis in young and middle aged males. Histological picture of the tumour described seems to evidence, that it originates from the ductuli efferentes.
