[Work and health status of workers of shoe manufacturing industries].

According to work conditions, severity and intensity, the main shoe-making occupations are assigned to III class of I-II jeopardy grade. If new technology applied, the work is assigned to I-II jeopardy class, being optimal--allowable. Increased mortality with liver cancer and lympholeucosis was revealed among workers contacting chloroprene.

[New aspects of carcinogenic hazards in shoe industry (a retrospective epidemiological study)].

Epidemiologic study of occupational cancer covered a cohort of shoe production workers exposed to chloroprene. The cohort consists of 5058 examinees having length of service over 2 years and subjected to follow-up for 15 years. The total person-years equaled 75,000. The examinees demonstrated higher mortality with liver cancer, leukoses, pancreatic carcinoma, malignancies of central nervous system, renal cancer. The study first revealed unusual but significant risk of mortality with malignancies of mediastinum and heart (ICD-12 code is 164). The study defined a "dose-effect" correlation between exposure to chloroprene and death with liver cancer.

[Current status of laboratory diagnosis of infections caused by nonspore-forming anaerobes and ways of its improvement].

Nonspore-anaerobic bacteria are the most common pathogens of purulent opportunistic infection. However, this group of infections is not recorded in our country due to the lack of national culture media and special laboratory equipment for anaerobic bacteriology. The laboratory diagnosis of infections caused by nonspore-forming anaerobes are analyzed and urgent measures to solve this topical problem are defined.

[Physiologic and hygienic evaluation of the job and health status in workers of shoe factory].

The article contains materials on complex physiologic and hygienic evaluation of work performed by various shoe-making occupations. The main occupational hazards are air pollution with chemicals, noise, vibration, considerable physical and psychophysiologic strain, visual exertion, inadequate working posture. The workers demonstrated fatigue of the main body functions during the shift. Diseases of locomotion and nervous system appeared to be prevalent among the shoe-makers. The complex of prophylactic measures is elaborated.

[Preliminaries to a study of epidemiology of occupational cancer among workers of shoe factories].

Data presented in literature proves frequent malignancies of various localizations in workers engaged into footwear production, which could result from exposure to leather, rubber dust and some chemicals (polyvinylchloride, chloroprene and others). Hygienic studies of air at footwear production demonstrate that the workers at their workplaces are exposed to such occupational hazards as dust, chemicals. Epidemiologic research to reveal possible correlation between work conditions and the workers' health are expedient.

[Health status and prevention of disorders in people performing intensive visual work].

Electronic industry workers, whose work involves visual strain were examined. The work appeared to be characterized by a plenty of unfavourable factors: high visual and emotional intensity, considerable strain of the locomotor apparatus in supporting a fixed sitting posture. The micromountain workers were exposed to poor ionized and ozonized air conditions combined with high bacterial contamination and lack of the UV rays in the air. Examinees showed markedly changed health and functional status of the main body systems. A complex of hygienic, prophylactic, physiological, technological and medical measures yielded remarkable results. Working conditions of electron industry workers are to be regulated.

[Clinico-genetic aspects of the neurocutaneous syndrome].

Clinical studies of skin manifestations were accomplished in children with inborn and early organic lesions of the nervous system and in different age groups of normal children. A total of 1320 ill children were examined to reveal 234 with skin syndromes. Of this number, 228 children were examined clinically. 2932 children, including 300 newborns, 507 children of preschool age and 2125 schoolchildren were examined for control purposes. The frequency of skin manifestations in different groups of ill and normal children was analyzed.
