[Mechanism of the development of drug resistance in protracted depressive conditions (morphometric study of the hypothalamus)].

A polynomial approximation of the relationship between the age and the nucleus volume of the hypothalamic neurosecretory cells was made. This parameter increased approximately 150 times from the neonatal period to 4 years of age and subsequently it remained practically unchanged. In manic-depressive psychosis (depressive phase), it was 1.4 times and in involutional depression 2 times lower than in healthy adults. This fact indicates the secretion lowering which supports desynchronism. A conclusion is drawn that the low efficiency of the therapy of lingering depressions could be accounted for by the insufficiently intense and oriented influence on their pathogenetic substrate--the neurosecretory cells of the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus.

[Suicidal actions of the mentally ill].

The authors analyzed suicide cases recorded over 25 years (1957-1981). Male to female ratio among suicides was 70.90% to 29.10%, with subjects aged over 41 accounting for 68.30% of all cases. Strangulation was the method of realizing suicidal tendencies in 87.50% of cases. The number of suicides tended to increase in spring and summer months (with the peak observed in May) as compared to winter months, with the rise in May, June and July being statistically significant as against the corresponding rate in December, January and February. Among the suicides patients with schizophrenia comprised 34.20%, with chronic alcoholism 29.70%, depressions of various genesis 18.90%, vascular psychoses 5.00%, epilepsy 3.10%, psychopathy 3.90%, somatogenic and posttraumatic psychoses 2.70% and 2.50% respectively. Further efforts are needed to identify individuals with an elevated suicidal risk.

[The suppressive action of a magnetic-laser ray and of an electrolytic solution of sodium hypochlorite on the factors of causative agent persistence].

The suppressive action of a magnet-laser ray and electrolyzed sodium hypochlorite solution on the persistence factors (antilysozyme, "anti-interferon") of Staphylococcus aureus and Neisseria gonorrhoeae is shown. The optimum conditions (time, dose, concentration) for the regulation of the persistence properties of the pathogens has been determined. The use of physicochemical factors in the proposed parameters has been shown to be effective for the therapy of purulent inflammatory diseases and the sanitation of S.aureus carriers.
