Experimental and clinical trials have shown high effectiveness of cytochrome c (0.5 mg/kg) in prevention of reperfusion myocardial disorders in cardiosurgical patients. Cytochrome c inhibits development of myocardial ischemic contracture, depression of coronary circulation, activation of lipid peroxidation. It reduces myocardial consumption of oxygen and promotes earlier restoration of fatty acids metabolism under lower glucose consumption by the heart muscle. By correction of myocardial metabolism, the drug suppresses fermentemia in early reperfusion.
A generalized multihit-multitarget model for a nonhomogeneous, with respect to radiosensitivity, population of irradiated cells is presented. The least squares and the maximum likelihood estimation of the model parameters is given. The estimates quality is evaluated by the computer-based study. The results obtained show the possibility of the parametric identification of cell radiosensitivity distribution according to the "dose-response" data.
The paper presents the results of a study of the clinical features of psychoneurological disorders in 178 patients with acute intoxications by various psychotropic drugs. Hyperbaric oxygenation showed positive changes in psychopathological syndromic kinesis. A sanogenetic rationale is provided for the method of choice in treating this category of patients.
The method of the estimation of interaction between two harmful effects based on the statistical survival rate data is discussed. In terms of the competitive risk model, an independent effect was defined as a product of survival functions corresponding to an isolated effect of each injurious factor. The proposed method is based on the comparison between the animals' lifetimes in the case of the isolated effects and the actual survival rates after the combined radiation effect. The comparison of the two alternatives was made by the regression model of Cox adapted for the purposes of this study.
Basic principles have been developed for a discrete stochastic simulation model of an elementary proliferative unit of the intestinal epithelium, a "crypt-villus" system. The analysis of the results obtained after a single exposure of the animal's abdomen to 3 and 6 Gy radiation has demonstrated that the dynamics of the number of cells that synthesize DNA in a small intestine crypt of exposed mice depends on the rate of radiation damage repair (50 to 100 h following irradiation). The rate of repair after 6 Gy irradiation is 1.5 times lower that after 3 Gy. The changes in the shape of the labeled mitoses curve, followed up during the postirradiation recovery of the intestinal epithelium, may occur with the time parameters of the cell mitotic cycle being invariable.
A review of simulation models of cells is provided, with a description of the basic methods of simulation. The deterministic and stochastic models of cell kinetics are considered on a few examples. A tendency has been revealed to applying the method computer reflection of the structure of heterogeneous cell systems. The utilization of specialized programmed languages of simulation is considered as promising.
The methods of the multifactor disperse analysis of the results of studies of the simulation model of the effect of ionizing radiation on cell populations were used to study the role of some characteristics of the stationary culture in its response to a single radiation effect. The clonogenic capacity of cells was used as a criterion for assessing the biological effect of radiation. "The share of resting cells" was a predominant factor influencing the survival of irradiated cell populations.
On the basis of their previously reported model of acute radiation sickness development the authors made a parametric analysis of the survival rate of mice after double exposure to ionizing radiation.
The kinetics of the induced process of normal and exposed human lymphocytes to DNA synthesis and mitosis has been analyzed in detail. It was shown that the capacity of the exposed lymphocytes of repeated entering the phase of DNA synthesis was sharply decreased and the average length of the prereplicative period increased.
