We compared the ability of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using a 0.064 T permanent magnet, three-phase bone scanning, and indium-labeled white blood cell (111In-WBC) scanning, to diagnose osteomyelitis. Twenty-three patients underwent biopsy. All patients were examined at presentation with all three modalities. Sensitivities for each modality were calculated using biopsy as a gold standard. The results were 72% for MRI, 68% for bone scan, and 45% for 111In-WBC. Specificities were not calculated because of lack of negative biopsies. MRI was as sensitive as bone scanning in the diagnosis of osteomyelitis. All modalities had lower than previously reported sensitivities for imaging osteomyelitis.

The radiologic, endoscopic, and histologic findings in two patients with flaskshaped or collar-button collections of barium in the duodenum are presented. These abnormal mucosal depressions, which may be related to inflammation, were seen endoscopically and identified radiographically and have not been reported previously.
The frequency and type of radiographic examinations performed, as well as the type and quantity of radiographic equipment currently available, vary from country to country, depending on the type of screening programs used and on the level of health care available. These factors are a reflection of the country's overall wealth and stage of development. In past years, the annual number of radiologic examinations performed has increased worldwide, and this trend is expected to continue. If less developed countries are unable to increase their radiologic capacity at least as quickly as their population increases, they will fall further behind in their ability to care for their citizens.
This case illustrates two different patterns of absorption of Iron Dextran in the gluteal soft tissues due to an intramuscular and a more proper Z-track technique. A 65 year old female presented to the nuclear medicine service for a bone scan to rule out metastatic disease from a surgically resected colon cancer. While the first bone scan showed no evidence of metastases, an abnormal accumulation of Technetium-99m methylene diphosphonate was noted in the left gluteal soft tissue region.

Technetium-99m DTPA renograms were performed before and after angioplasty in a 63-year-old man with bilateral renal artery stenosis (RAS), hypertension, and renal insufficiency. Decreased isotope uptake after captopril by the right kidney assisted in the selection of the right renal artery for angioplasty. Post-angioplasty improvement in both blood pressure control and renal function was accompanied by an absence of effect of captopril on the isotope uptake by the right kidney. In bilateral RAS, the captopril renogram is a useful tool for selecting the site for angioplasty, for assessing the adequacy of the procedure, and for long-term follow-up.
Radiographic identification of vicarious excretion of intravenous contrast into the stomach has not previously been cited in the literature. We report here an instance of gastric excretion of iodinated intravenous contrast following excretory urography in a severely burned patient. The physiology and possible pathways of vicarious excretion of contrast are discussed.
