[Infrared spectroscopy of the enamel in dental fluorosis].

Structural relationships in orthophosphate (PO4)3-, carbonate (CO3)2-, and hydroxyl (OH)- groups were studied in 2 teeth with grave fluorosis manifestations, removed for orthodontic indications, by infrared spectroscopy. Two intact teeth were examined for control. The findings evidence ar elevated protein level in fluorosis-involved dental enamel and impaired enamel microstructure; this may be explained by specific features of fluorosis clinical manifestation and by increased enamel permeability in grave fluorosis.

[The UDK-87 device for the electrodiagnosis of caries].

A new scheme of an device for electrodiagnosis of caries is suggested, based on studies of dental hard tissue electric resistance. A highly sensitive M136 gage with 0.5 microA complete deviation current is employed in the scheme, this permitting measurements of high electric resistance of dental hard tissues within a range of 1-200 M omega, painless for patients. The device may be useful for the diagnosis of fluorosis, hypoplasia, incomplete enamel mineralization, enamel microfissures, abnormal wearing of dental hard tissue.

[The effect of calcium glycerophosphate and Remodent on the dental enamel permeability in dogs with fluorosis].

In 14 dogs aged 6 months with severe fluorosis, the authors studied the effects of intake of calcium glycerophosphate and local remodent application on 45Ca enamel incorporation and the depth of its penetration into the dental hard tissues. The treatment led to a substantial decrease in both enamel 45Ca accumulation and the depth of its penetration under severe fluorosis. Combined use of the drugs was more beneficial in terms of enamel 45Ca permeability.

[The effect of various concentrations of hydrochloric acid solutions on the enamel permeability for 45Ca in experimental fluorosis].

In 96 months-old dogs with light fluorosis the effect of 10% HCl solution and the mixture of 36% HCl solution with concentrated HCl (1:2) on 45Ca incorporation into the superficial and deep enamel layers, and its penetration into the dental hard tissues. The increase in HCl concentration was directly related to enamel 45Ca incorporation and the depth of its penetration in fluorosis-afflicted teeth. Under effect of 12% HCl solution 45Ca penetrated across the whole enamel reaching the dentin. Further increases in HCl concentration is nonexpedient in bleaching the fluorosis-afflicted enamel.

[The Ca and P content of various layers of human dental enamel in differing manifestations of fluorosis].

X-ray spectral microanalysis was applied to study Ca and P contents in superficial, intermedial and deep enamelum zones in 15 human teeth with different fluorosis manifestations which were extracted for orthodontic purposes. In 3rd grade fluorosis, detected were a statistically reliable decrease in Ca content in enamelum superficial zone and a tendency of its depleting in deep zones. Ca/P ratio was also lowered that indicated mineralization impairment in solid tissues of the teeth. This should affect the choice of the technique of therapy and prevention of different manifestations of teeth fluorosis.
