[Bacteriocinogeny in Yersinia enterocolitica].

Bacteriocinogeny was found in 19.8 per cent of Y. enterocolitica strains tested. It was designated by the authors as enterocoliticacinogeny and the substance produced by the pathogen was named enterocoliticacine. Bacteriocinogeny was found among the collection strains isolated in the South Primorye and not among the strains isolated abroad. Some cultures of Y. enterocolitica isolated abroad and in the South Primorye were used as indicator strains for revealing enterocoliticacinogeny. Enterocoliticacine inhibited growth only of some strains of Y. enterocolitica and had no inhibitory effect on growth of Coli bacteria, plague and pseudotuberculosis microbes. The latter 3 bacterial species did not inhibit growth of the causative agent of gastric yearsiniosis, which may be of some diagnostic importance. The diverse spectrum of enterocoliticacine and the character of inhibition of sensitive culture growth are indicative of the presence of several types of bacteriocines in Y. enterocolitica.

Animals

[Appendicular form of intestinal yersiniosis].

The authors report twenty three cases of intestinal yerseniosis revealed among 575 patients operated upon for acute appendicitis. The diagnosis was supported bacteriologically and serologically. The disease proceeded with a predominant involvement of the appendicular process. Various forms of acute appendicitis were observed. Common appendicitis was noted in 6 cases, phlegmonous--in 15, gangrenous--in 2.

Acute Disease

[Intestinal yersiniasis in the Far East. The sensitivity and cross resistance to antibiotics of Yersinia enterocolitica strains isolated in the Maritime Territory].

The author studied 121 strains of Yersinia enterocolitica isolated in the Ptimorye Territory. It was found that by their sensitivity to antibiotics the strains did not differ from the analogues abroad strains: they were highly sensitive to tetracycline, streptomycin, kanamycin, neomycin and monomycin (MIC 1.25 to 0.6 gamma/ml or units/ml), less sensitive to oxytetracycline, chlortetracycline, levomycetin, oletetrine and gramicidine (MIC 10-5 gamma/ml), highly resistant to penicillin (MIC 100-50 gamma/ml), erythromycin and polymyxin (MIC 500-100 gamma/ml). No differences in the sensitivity to the above antibiotics of the Far East strains as dependent on the place period and source of isolation and inidentity of their biochemical characteristics were found. Cross resistance in Yersinia enterocolitica forms with artificially developed resistance to some antibiotics was found. No cross resistance with tetracycline was noted in the streptomycin resistant variants of the bacteria.
