1. If endoscopy leads to the suspicion of an exulcerated and/or polypous carcinoma of the colon, surgical intervention is the primary therapy. Histological classification of the tumour should be effected by means of endoscopic biopsy. 2. (Familial) adenomatosis of the colon requires colectomy. 3. Broad-based polypi resembling a lawn where a large wound area must be expected by electrocoagulation (risk of perforation), and pediculate polypi of the (rare) size of 3 cm and more (risk of haemorrhage) should not be resected via endoscopy but by surgery. 4. Solitary or multiple polypi of the colon not covered by points 1 to 3 above, are primarily for reasons of diagnosis an indication for endoscopic polypectomy. Biospy in the case of adenomas to clarify the histological structure and to obtain qualitative and quantitative information regarding malignant degeration, must be discouraged (""partial diagnosis''.) 5. Basing on the current state of knowledge it is assumed that effective prohylaxis of cancer is achieved by the endoscopic removal of benign adenomas of the colon. 6. It is also assumed that effective cancer therapy can be realised by the endoscopic removal of adenomas which have already undergone malignant degeration (adenoma with severe cellular atypia, invasive differntiated adenocarcinoma in the head of the adenoma.)
Duodenal stenosis in chronic relapsing pancreatitis occurs in 20% of our patients. In 21 of our cases, the stenosis was always in the descending portion of the duodenum, and in two-thirds it caused an obstruction. The stenosis is always concentric with destruction of the mucosal pattern, widening of the neighbouring folds, irregular contours, and, possibly, straightening of the medial margin of the duodenum. There may be widening of the duodenal loop and frequently the duodenal loop is dilated. The causes for these appearances vary, but a peri-pancreatitis or duodenitis are most frequent. There is no close relationship with the severity of the pancreatitis. Our findings are compared with the small number of reports to be found in the literature.

Case report of two intraluminal diverticula of the duodenum. It is a rare congenital lesion characterized by a double layered mucosal sac lying in the duodenal lumen near the ampulla of Vater. Clinical features and laboratory findings are uncharacteristic. X-ray examination is the diagnostic method of choice, endoscopy will give further information about inflammation, haemorrhage and localisation of the ampulla. Treatment of choice is either surgical excision or endoscopical splitting of the diverticulum.
The time gap between pregnant mare serum gonadotropine injection (PMSG) and subsequent human chorionic gonadotropine injection (HCG) had major effects, within 72 to 80 hours, on the number of animals with recorded toleration reflex to deadline-oriented insemination as well as on actual fertility. Delay of injections within the above limits always led to higher farrowing and piglet rates. HCG injection was round to be optimally timed when 78-80 hours were allowed to elapse from the preceding PMSG injection.
Functional tests and ERP were performed in patients with chronic and acute pancreatitis and papillary stenosis; both diseases differ considerably as can be shown by both, pancreatography and degree of functional impairment. The different classification types of pancreatitis are based upon the Marseille Symposium. The ERP is the only x-ray procedure which allows the diagnosis of intrapapillar pancreatic duct stenosis. The ERP significantly improves diagnosis of the early stages of papillary stenosis of the pancreas. Neither secretin-pancreozymin test nor ERP are indicated in cases of primary chronic calcifying pancreatitis; in chronic relapsing calcifying pancreatitis they should be used for preoperative diagnostic purposes.
Exocrine pancreatic function was tested in 8 patients with pancreatitis and hyperlipoproteinemia type I, IV and V. Three young patients with HLP I and V and 2 patients with alcoholic HLP type V exhibited in most cases a distinctly reduced pancreatic function (chronic relapsing pancreatitis). Three patients with primary or secondary HLP type IV and V did not present pancreatic insufficiency (acute pancreatitis, acute relapsing pancreatitis). Taking into account the literature data and our own experience it can be stated that all forms of excessive hypertriglyceridemia can give rise to acute pancreatitis. Different possible causal relationships between HLP and pancreatitis are discussed. Concomitant occurrence of HLP and pancreatitis is observed most often in alcoholics.

A specific substrate (Suphepa), which is well known in duodenal chymotrypsin determination (pancreozymin-secretin-test), is also suitable for the enzyme determination in stools from patients suspected of having a pancreas insufficiency of exocrine nature. The median value of 353 fecal chymotrypsin determination of 180 normal persons was 137 mug/g of native stool. There is a good correlation in comparing the fecal with the duodenal chymotrypsin: Out of 30 comparable patients, 10 patients had pathological values for the duodenal and fecal chymotrypsin determinations, whereas 18 patients had normal values. According to the results of the pancreozymin-secretin-test, false normal stool results were recorded for two patients. No false positive stool values were recorded for the comparative collective. The great accuracy, the modest instrumental expense and the negligible inconvenience for the patient are good in line with the requirements for a screening test.
The value of selective endoscopic retrograde cholangiography in the radiological diagnosis of diseases of the biliary passages and neighbouring organs is discussed on the basis of 400 retrograde pancreatocholangiograms. The results of this endoscopic examination were compared with the findings of all the other preoperative examinations carried out. The diagnostic usefulness and limitations of various methods are discussed in relation to stenosis of the papilla, pancreatitis, carcinoma of the pancreas, tumours of the extrahepatic bile ducts and postoperative bile duct abnormalities. The diagnostic accuracy of 97% emphasises the value of co-operation between radiologists and endoscopists.
