[Characteristics of the course of ischemic heart disease in thyroid hypofunction].

The peculiarities of lipid metabolism and hyperlipoproteinemia, blood coagulation and myocardial contractility in normal and reduced thyroid function were studied in 162 patients with ischemic heart disease. It was shown that hyperlipoproteinemia, hypercoagulation, and myocardial hypodynamia are revealed more frequently and at earlier periods in hypofunction.

Aged

[Functional activity of the thyroid gland after immunization with the homologous tissue of the pancreas].

An insufficiency of the insular apparatus of the pancreas developed in rabbits in response to the immunization with a homologous tissue of the pancreas. A correlation existed between the thyroid gland function and the endocrine portion of the pancreas. The results of study of the functional activity of the thyroid gland under conditions of immunization with a homologous tissue of the pancreas are presented. The data obtained in the course of the experiment pointed to the changes in the thyroid gland characteristic of the intensification of its function: the height of the epithelium increased, the diametre of the follicles and the index of the colloid accumulation diminished. Experimental results confirmed the literature data on the existence of an inverse relationship between the functional activity of the insular apparatus of the pancreas and the thyroid gland function.

Animals

[Thyroid dysfunction and diabetes mellitus].

The degree of the thyroid dysfunction was determined in 100 women, suffering from endemic goiter, on the basis of the clinical pattern metabolic findings, the degree of 131I absorption by the thyroid and 131I-labelled thyroxine -- F-factor. The glucose tolerance test (GTT) was performed. In patients with euthyrosis and thyrotoxicosis the insular apparatus response to hyperglycemia was not sufficient. In 31% of the patients GTT was decreased. Latent diabetes mellitus was seen in 17% of the subjects and an evident from the disease in 10%. The thyroid dysfunction in the region of endemic goiter may be responsible for the diabetes mellitus development. The significance of this factor increases depending on thyrotoxicosis intensity.
