[Characteristics of collagen metabolism in duodenal ulcer].

We studied the content of collagen metabolites in patients with duodenal ulcer (blood plasma, urea, and samples of the duodenal mucous tunic and mouth fluid). We also defined the role of an affected collagen metabolism in the formation and cicatrization of duodenal ulcer; finally, we ascertained that the nature of the detected changes in different biological substrate is unidirectional.

[The duodenal epithelium in duodenal diseases].

The purpose of the study was to define duodenal epithelial function in duodenal diseases and to assess the potentialities of correction of detected dysfunctions. The electrical properties (EPs) of the duodenal epithelium were explored in patients with primary chronic duodenitis, duodenal peptic ulcer (DPU) on an exacerbation and in the late postoperative period after selective proximal vagotomy. Mucosal biopsy specimens were obtained at fibrogastroduodenoscopy with biopsy forceps and placed in a sign-alternating field with the parameters, adequate bioelectric epitheliocytic characteristics: 28 V at a voltage sign change rate of 1 Hz, and a current strength of 200 microA. Bioelectrical cell reactions (nuclear fluctuation amplitude) were recorded by light microscopy using a MOB-1A ocular micrometer at minutes 10, 30, and 60 of the onset of electrical field action. A significant reduction was found in the amplitude of duodenal epithelial nuclear fluctuations in the examinees, which was most pronounced in DPU on an exacerbation. Duodenal epithelial EPs were shown to undergo regular changes during therapy and may serve as an additional test in evaluating the efficiency of therapy.

[Riboxine effectiveness in combined treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis].

The authors present results of combined treatment of 60 patients with chronic atrophic gastritis with riboxine. A favorable effect was registered on clinical symptoms, acid-forming function, ultrastructure of gastric mucosa. The above positive effects of riboxine make it useful in combined treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis.

[The dynamics of the indices of protein metabolic homeostasis and the status of duodenal mucosal regeneration during the etaden treatment of duodenal peptic ulcer].

The authors relate the results of examining 149 men suffering from duodenal ulcer. The main group was made up of 75 patients given parenteral etaden treatment combined with conventional therapy. A study was made of the dynamics of clinical manifestations, the level of total protein and its fraction in the blood, protein metabolism (by radionuclide technique). Pieces of the duodenal mucosa from the periulcerous area were examined under microscope. Scanning and electron microscopy was also performed. Based on the data obtained it is concluded that etaden had active influence on protein synthesis, which favoured more rapid regression of the ulcerous defect in the main group patients. Morphological studies have also shown the positive dynamics of the regenerative process.

[Intragastric sinusoidal modulated-current electrophoresis of cobamamide as a method in the pathogenetic therapy of chronic atrophic gastritis].

Therapy of patients with chronic atrophic gastritis using intragastric SMC-electrophoresis of cobamamide resulted in a marked clinical effect. Altogether 82 patients were investigated. Protein metabolism using I131-albumin and reparative regeneration (histochemical and electron microscopy methods) was studied in the course of treatment. A positive time course of protein metabolism determined by albumin and improvement of reparation of specialized epitheliocytes in the mucous membrane of the stomach were noted as a result of therapy.

[Several endocrine aspects of duodenal stasis in the process of therapeutic gymnastics].

The levels of TTH, T3, T4 and testosterone were studied in 65 female patients suffering from chronic duodenitis with concomitant hypertensive duodenal stasis, stages I and II. A significant increase in the content of the hormones under study was revealed. Subclinical hyperthyroidism was determined by the formation of the irritative autonomic (sympathicotonic) syndrome as a result of irritation of the sympathetic nerve fibers of the celiac plexus due to the presence of inflammation at the duodenojejunal junction. This condition was attended by the predominance of catabolic processes (thyroid hormones) and a compensatory rise of the secretion of the hormones from the anabolic group (testosterone). The use of a special program of exercises led to the lessening of the clinicofunctional symptoms of disease with the normalization of hormonal homeostasis.

[Hormonal homeostasis (somatotropin, thyrotropin, triiodothyronine and cortisol) and the histomorphologic indicators of the gastric mucosa during treatment with preparations enhancing protein synthesis (alvesin-new and retabolyl)].

The paper is devoted to a study of hormonal homeostasis and indices of histomorphological and endoscopic examination of the gastric mucosa in 96 patients with stomach ulcer with ulcerative defect of different site using the combination of an anabolic steroid nandrolene and alvezine-new. The incorporation of anabolic steroids and alvezine in multiple modality therapy was accompanied by a rise of epithelial mitotic activity, faster disappearance of inflammatory and dystrophic processes in the gastric mucosa and improved differentiation of cells of the main glands. A positive time course of histochemical indices was accompanied by favorable shifts in clinical signs of disease and hormonal homeostasis.
