The differences were studied between retrospectively calculated emmetropizing intraocular lenses and lenses estimated from different methods and formulas, either with or without the use of ultrasonic biometry. A number of 201 eyes was involved. The results show that ultrasonic biometry is an indispensable tool for the prediction of the power of intraocular lenses, which would produce emmetropia. The best results were obtained when using biometry and the simple empirical SRK formula.

Instant close-up photography of the eye is simplified with the Polaroid SX-70 camera and the new Polaroid CU-70 accessory kit. This offers many new opportunities for ophthalmologists, who require instant photographs of the eye for the patient's chart. The SX-70 is simple single-lens reflex camera to use and easy for an inexperienced operator and provides ten color pictures of the format 8 X 8 cm. The supercolor Time-Zero SX-70 film takes 90 sec to develop.
Differential diagnosis by means of A-scan echography depends to an important extent on the echogram. These characteristics can be evaluated and statistically analysed by computer programs. The analysis is aided by the storage in the computer of a series of echograms in a short period of time (3 seconds). The possible uses of the programs which have been developed are demonstrated.

Circumscribed choroidal hemangioma (CCH), a relatively rare benign tumor, can cause differential diagnostic problems by its atypical appearance at the time of presentation. Ancillary test such as fluorescein angiography, indocyanin green angiography, ultrasonography, computer tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) bring not always additional information and their results are not always pathognomic. We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of 40 patients with the ultrasonographical diagnosis of CCH compiled in the last 20 years. Ultrasonography appeared to be uniform in its lesion characteristics and reliable in the diagnosis. During the mean follow-up time of 7.4 years there were no clinical or posttherapeutical developments that made a correction of the diagnosis necessary.
In the past five years A- and B-mode echography were used in the differential diagnosis of intraocular tumours (174 patients) and numerous cases with mimicking lesions. By using the 7200 A-scan equipment and distinct investigation techniques and giving attention to all aspects (quantitative, kinetic, and topographic) of the obtained echogram, the detection of the tumours involved in this study (choroidal melanoma, choroidal hemangioma, choroidal metastases, and retinoblastoma), is almost 99%. The accuracy in the differentiation of these tumours appears to be over 90%. Most of the false positives occur in the differentiation between choroidal melanomas and choroidal metastases.
