[Pathogenicity of Fusobacterium. Apropos of 2 cases].

Two cases of severe septico-pyohaemia due to Fusobacterium necrophorum are reported. Clinical data from human cases and experimental results from infections of laboratory animal with Fusobacterium necrophorum suggest: the important role of individual factors which enhance anaerobic growth (i.e. decrease of tissular redox potential); the involvement of thrombophlebitis with septic thrombi increasing the frequency of metastases; the early and long-lasting bacterial localisation in tissues, particularly in the liver where the proliferation of Fusobacterium necrophorum in Küpffer cells impairs macrophage function.

[Achondrogenesis. Apropos of a case].

The authors report a new case of achondrogenesis, the study of which is principally directed towards the histopathological examination of the conjugal cartilage. A brief review of the literature recalls the main clinical, radiological and histopathological characteristics of this fatal chondrodysplasia transmitted by an autosomal recessive means. In addition to other features, it reveals the difficulty which may be experienced in differentiating between the two types (I and II). Finally, the differential diagnosis is briefly assessed, the problem being the elimination of other non-transmissible chondrodysplasias, in particular thanatophoric dwarfism, for the purpose of appropriate genetic counselling.

[Bilateral congenital eventration of the diaphragm with lobar giant emphysema (author's transl)].

The authors relate the difficulties in management of bilateral congenital diaphragmatic eventration in a new-born. After the surgical correction of the left diaphragmatic eventration, an opacity at the base of the right hemithorax was studied by concomittant pulmonary and hepatic scintigraphy and by pneumoperitoneum. The right diaphragmatic eventration was secondarily treated. The baby was later reoperated twice : on the left side at the age of 7 months for a partial relaps of the left eventration, then at the age of 9 months for a malformative giant lobar emphysema of the right middle lobe, requiring lobectomy.

[Spontaneous perirenal hematoma in infants. Apropos of 2 cases].

The authors report two personal cases and note the special appearance of perirenal hematomas in infants. The pathogenesis is often obscure but this condition should be classified with the spontaneous perirenal hematomas and retroperitoneal tumour masses in infants.
