Flavonoid production and accumulation during the ontogenic cycle of Passiflora incarnata L. was studied. The highest concentration of isovitexin occurred between pre-flowering and flowering stages. The greatest accumulation of flavonoids took place in the leaves. Furthermore some pharmacodiagnostic characteristics of the drug of P. incarnata were specified using a Scanning Electron Microscope.
The 137 Cs content was determined in 406 plant drug samples harvested in 1986 and 1987 after the Chernobyl accident and in their preparations. Very high values were found in drugs produced in Eastern Europe and in Italy. The decoctions contain about 80% of 137Cs present in the drugs.
Three species of the family of Compositae were extracted, partitioned and fractioned on silica gel column. The chromatographic fractions were investigated for cytostatic activity in vitro against human KB (human carcinoma of nasopharynx) cell line. The most interesting results were obtained with the first eight fractions of Senecio inaequidens DC, chloroformic extract, which showed marked cytostatic activity and appeared worthy of further investigations.
The antipyretic and antibacterial activities of the ethanolic extract of the flowering tops of Teucrium polium (L.) were been studied. The extract was effective against both yeast and carrageenin pyrexia in rats. It also exhibited a marked antibacterial action against both gram positive and gram negative organisms and was found to be non toxic in acute studies.
