[Characterization of tuberculosis agent in different regions of Russia and its significance in assessment of the epidemiological situation].

The authors analyze M. tuberculosis viability in terms of growth speed and intensity, drug sensitivity; compare bacteriological data with epidemiological (morbidity, primary bacillarity in respiratory tuberculosis, bacillary focus in populations, population with fibrocavernous tuberculosis); range epidemiological and bacteriological indices; determine integral indices of epidemiological and bacteriological situation; calculate Spirman's rate. It is thought possible to use the above bacteriological indices in analysis of epidemiological situation concerning tuberculosis.

[Effects of low-intensity garnet laser irradiation on microorganisms and wounds].

The influence of low-intensity garnet laser radiation a wavelength of 0.53 microns (green spectrum) on Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MT), nonspecific microflora and regeneration of aseptic and purulent wounds has been studied experimentally for the first time. Irradiation of MT and nonspecific microflora inoculations has shown that this type of laser radiation fails to stimulate growth of MT and nonspecific microflora and has an inhibiting action on MT manifested by delayed MT growth, a lower number of dimensions of the growth colonies as compared to those of the control inoculations and has a bacteriostatic action on micrococci and Neisseria organisms. Influence of this type of laser on the aseptic and purulent wounds in 50 guinea pigs has revealed a more rapid regeneration of aseptic wounds (by 3-4 days) as compared to the control.

[Effect of carbon dioxide laser on Mycobacterium tuberculosis and microflora].

The effect of CO2 laser on M. tuberculosis (MT) and nonspecific micro-organisms has been studied. Radiation of MT in suspension causes a decrease in the number of colonies. Laser action on MT and microflora after their growing in a solid nutrient media produces a bactericidal action in the exposed zone with the area of growth inhibition being in a direct proportion to the laser power and the time of its action.

[The effect of an ozone-oxygen mixture on Mycobacterium tuberculosis and conditionally pathogenic microorganisms].

The impact of a gaseous ozone-oxygen mixture (OOM) on Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MBT) and opportunistic microorganisms was studied. It was demonstrated that on 15- and 30-min exposure, OOM caused a significant decrease in the number of colonies of the grown microorganisms as compared with the control. The OOM mixture produced the highest effect of the MBT suspension, which is likely to be related to a greater surface of ozone contact with a cell than with a dense medium, and higher concentration of ozone and its highly active radicals that arise from a treatment process. After treatment with a gaseous mixture, 80-90% of the microbial cells lost their reproductive ability. The strains grown after OOM action retain drug sensitivity of the original strain. The results suggest that the use of a gaseous OOM mixture is promising in the treatment of tuberculosis to cleanse the destruction cavities and pleural empyemas, including those of nonspecific etiology.

[The action of helium-neon laser radiation on the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis].

The growth properties of M. tuberculosis subjected to the action of helium-neon laser radiation was studied. Laser radiation was shown to change the quantitative and qualitative composition of mycobacterial population. Disturbances in the viability of mycobacteria appear as a consequence of changes in the morphological structure of mycobacterial cells. The maximum effect of helium-neon laser radiation was achieved after the irradiation of M. tuberculosis culture on days 2-3 after inoculation. These results made it possible to suggest that the effect of helium-neon laser radiation was most pronounced in cells at the stage of mitosis (the logarithmic stage of growth) with the highest degree of metabolism.

[Effect of low-energy helium-neon laser on the biological properties of Mycobacterium tuberculosis].

The results of experimental studies of M. tuberculosis biological properties tested in guinea pigs which were subjected to different doses of helium-neon laser radiation are given. The functional evidence is compared with the results of electron microscopic study of the irradiated culture. The investigation revealed that laser radiation caused changes in biological properties of M. tuberculosis. A decrease in growth properties and virulence was found to be related to a radiation dose. It is suggested that a drop in the biological activity of M. tuberculosis under laser radiation be associated with its influence on the Mycobacterium lipid layer which contains a cord-factor and responsible for their virulence.

[Clinical and bacteriological manifestations of nonspecific infection of the urinary tract and dysbacteriosis in patients with tuberculosis of the kidneys].

Altogether 124 patients with tuberculosis of the kidney and post-tuberculous changes of the urinary tracts were investigated. Changes in microflora of the urine, feces, blood, fauces, vagina, and resected tissues in the course of antituberculous therapy were studied. Frequent disorders in ecological equilibrium of autoflora of the macro-organism were shown to develop in the first 2-4 months of antituberculous therapy, mainly in patients with an active tuberculous process and a complicated course (urinary stasis, chronic renal insufficiency). Intestinal dysbacteriosis was diagnosed in 32.1% of the patients, nonspecific microflora in the urine--in 32.9-42.4%. Early detection and correction of dysbacteriosis was an indispensable condition for effective treatment of tuberculosis of the urinary system.
