[Sensitive innervation of the skin of the concha auriculae].

By means of the retrograde transport of horseradish peroxidase (HP) method sensitive innervation of the rabbit concha auriculae skin has been studied. For the investigation the skin area 2 X 2 sm large has been chosen on the internal surface of the right concha auriculae 6 sm below the upper edge of the ear. The HP solution is injected in the skin areas 5-6 mm large with normal electrical permeability and with decreased electrical resistance to the constant electrical current. In the first case innervation is ensured only by ipsilateral sensitive neurons of the spinal nodes (SN) CIII. Small neurons make 75% of the total amount of the labelled cells. In the second case about 98% of the skin areas are innervated by the neurons of the SN CIII and about 2% by the neurons of the SN CII. Small and middle neurons make 60% and 38%, respectively. Single labelled cells are revealed in the SN CIV. The HP-positive neurons, innervating the skin areas with an increased electrical permeability nearly 3 times exceed the neurons, projecting on the skin areas with normal electrical permeability. The large labelled neurons make 2% in both cases. Localization of the HP-positive cells in the SN is diffuse, structural compositions of the neurons are not revealed. In the trigeminal node labelled neurons are not found.

[Reflexotherapeutic effects on biologically active points of the concha auriculae].

By means of histochemical method, for revealing cholinergic nervous structures, and electron microscopy, innervation of biologically active points (BAP) and that of neutral areas of the rabbit ear skin has been studied, normal and after acu-, electro- and electroacupuncture. The BAP have more intensive vascularization and innervation, their specific feature is presence of well pronounced nervous fasciculi. The latter are formed by 6-10 fibers 1-6 mcm in diameter. The diameter of the fasciculi is within the limits 25-30 mcm up to 40-45 mcm. Under the electron microscopic investigation myelin and amyelin fibers are revealed in the nervous fasciculi. In the area of the epidermal basal layer and in the epidermis itself, single nerve terminals are found; they are considered as the point pain receptors. After acu-, electro- and electroacupuncture, intensity of the nervous fibers staining increases, thus demonstrating an increment of acetylcholine esterase activity. After insertion of acupuncture needles and after electrical irritation, the changes in the nervous and cellular elements in the BAP areas are studied electron microscopically. After the effects mentioned, mast cells situating in the BAP area become, as a rule, degranulated. After repeated electroacupuncture irritation of the BAP, an inflammatory focus appears with peculiarities specific for the given process. The reflexotherapeutic effect is supposed to be transferred via the nervous system. The mechanical irritation of the nerve fasciculi and the accompanying traumatization of the surrounding cellular elements initiate the mechanism of reflexotherapy.

[Structural organization of preganglionic sympathetic neurons].

Distribution of marked preganglionic neurons over spinal nuclei and segments was studied in cats with the aid of microinjections of the horse-radish peroxidase into the cranial cervical ganglion. The major part of these neurons were revealed in the main part of the intermediolateral nucleus. A somewhat lesser number of the cells were found in the funicular part of the nucleus. In the T1 segment they constituted about 90% of cells containing the peroxidase. Other neurons were localized in the paraependymal and intercalative nuclei. In longitudinal sections of the spinal cord, the preganglionic sympathetic neurons projecting their axons into the cranial cervical ganglion, form a rostro-caudal chain made of small ensembles of cells.

[Structure and localization of sympathetic neurons in the cat spinal cord].

By the method of retrograde axonal transport of horseradish peroxidase (HP) structure and localization of sympathetic neurons sending axons to the cranial cervical ganglion (CCG) have been revealed ipsilaterally in the ventral horns and in 4 nuclei of the spinal cord: nucl ILp, nucl. ILf. nucl. IC, nucl. ICpe. Orientation of the neurons, their number, structure of the nuclei formed by them, degree of the CCG efferentation by the preganglionic fibres, which run from various nuclei, are different. In nucl. ILf two types of neurons have been revealed-triangle and spindle-shaped, they always orienting by their long axis in mediolateral direction. The greatest amount of HP-positive neurons are found in nucl. ILp. They form a well distinquished compact nucleus in the lateral horns. HP-labelled neurons in nucl. ILp are found at the level of segments T1-T8 with their maximal amount at the level of segments T1-T3. HP-positive neurons are detected in nucl. ILf beginning from the segment C8 up to the middle of T4, in nucl. IC-from the segment C8 up to T6, in nucl. ICpe-from the segment C8 up to T5, in the ventral horns-from the segment T1 up to T5. In rostocaudal direction from the segment C8 up to T8 the number of HP-positive neurons is decreasing, but the part of nucl. ILp neurons in the CCG efferentation, comparing to the neurons in other sympathetic structures of the spinal cord, is increasing.

[Clinical course, diagnosis and surgical treatment of Raynaud's disease].

The work is based on the experience with treatment of 86 patients with Raynaud's disease. 41 patients were treated conservatively, in 45 patients thoracic sympathectomy was performed. All 45 patients subjected to thoracic sympathectomy showed excellent and good immediate results. Late results were favourable in 20 out of 23 operated patients, examined within the terms from 5 to 15 years postoperatively. Thus, thoracic sympathectomy is an effective method of treatment for Raynaud's disease.

[Cancer of th e exrahepatic bile ducts].

The authors have summarized their experience with observations and treatment of 101 patients with cancer of extrahepatic bile ducts. Based on personal authors' findings it is concluded, that cancer of bile passages can frequently develop against the background of cholelithiasis. Taking into account little efficacy of surgical therapy, the prophylaxis of cancer development, namely an early operation for cholelithiasis, is believed by the authors to be the most effective measure.

[Lasers in the treatment of arterial occlusive diseases of the limbs].

The authors have analysed the initial results of treatment in 64 patients suffering obliterating diseases of arteries of upper and lower extremities by means of irradiation with a helium-neon laser the least electric resistance points. The control over the results of treatment is exercised basing on findings of thermovision study and patients' subjective sensations. The best results were gained in treatment of patients with Reynaud diseases and obliterating endarteritis. The therapy employed yielded an insignificant effect in various forms of atherosclerosis of the lower extremities.
