Method for the measurement of the maximum Doppler frequency.

This paper describes a method for detection of the maximum Doppler frequency from a histogram of Doppler signals (HDS). The performance of the system is described, and its behavior in analysis of noise signals that have known lower and upper cut off frequencies is discussed. Experimental investigations show that the device correctly measures the maximum frequency envelope and can be useful in evaluating the maximum flow velocities in the blood circulation system.

[Perioperative blood transfusion in patients with malignant neoplasms].

Within 1986-1988, 3,358 patients were treated at the Department of Surgery, Military Teaching Hospital in Bydgoszcz. Hundred twenty six out of these patients were operated for the malignant tumors. Indications to blood transfusion in case of patients with cancer were analysed retrospectively. In our patients about 50% whom blood was given were justified cases. It was found that the analysis of indications based on laboratory findings may decrease the amount of blood given patients who underwent surgery for cancer.

[Malnutrition and septic complications in cancer of the colon].

Malnutrition and septic complications, as well as general anaesthesia, blood transfusion, extent and duration of operation may lead to weakening of the immune system in patients with colonic carcinoma. Complications and related worse prognosis were noted in patients with malnutrition and septic complications. The problems of malnutrition and septic complications in patients operated on for colonic carcinoma may be factors underestimated in surgical practice.

The usefulness of Doppler time interval histogram analysis in arterial occlusion.

The method based on the Time Interval Histogram analysis of the Doppler signal was applied for localisation of arterial diseases and the precision of the reconstructive operation. The preliminary investigations were carried out on the abdominal aorta of a dog. After that 87 patients were examined. The examination confirmed the usefulness of the method.
