This report deals with the situation of the state of military veterinary medicine in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy shortly before the outbreak of the First World War and in the years immediately afterwards (1920). Specifically we will follow the career of a student in the Military Veterinary Academy and his practice as Military Veterinarian through the end of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. We will examine the role of Farrier-Veterinarians as predecessors of University trained Veterinarians, as well as the details surrounding the entrance into service, the course of study, and the official duties of the veterinary students. Finally we will consider the representative organisation of the Military Veterinarians and their duties in the field.
