[Neuro-Behçet. Clinical study of 9 patients].

The authors evaluated the type of neurological involvement existing in patients with Behçet's syndrome over a 10 year period. Nine patients presenting several bouts with neurological symptomatology were studied with headache being clinically predominant followed in order of frequency by sensitive and/or motor ictal pictures. Suspected localization was both hemispheric and brain stem. No diagnostic test was able to clear up the origin of the lesions in the first stages of the disease, however the authors were able to observe, upon performing visual and/or brain stem evoked potentials and nuclear magnetic resonance at the time of the control, that several asymptomatic patients showed alterations in both tests. Thus, the value of the above mentioned tests must be emphasized in the follow up and control of neuro-Behçet's disease.

[Primary intraventricular hemorrhage in the adult].

Forty two instances of primary intraventricular hemorrhage (PIVH) out of overall 592 cases of intracerebral hemorrhages diagnosed by CT in 1980-1989, to evaluate the general prognosis attributable to PIVH and its factors. The mortality rate was 23.8%, and persistent residual disability was small or absent in 59.5% of patients. The prognosis was influenced by the clinical status at admission and the magnitude of ventricular bleeding. We conclude that PIVH is comparatively benign.

Intracerebral calcifications in childhood lymphoblastic leukemia. A new iatrogenic disease?

A 3-year-old child diagnosed as having acute lymphatic leukemia (ALL), developed meningeal leukemia 36 months after the onset of the disease. He was twice subjected to cranial irradiation plus intrathecal methotrexate (i.t. MTX). Skull radiology showed bilateral gyriform calcification of both cerebral hemispheres. Hematological relapse was first detected 5 years after diagnosis and the child died 5 months later. The most striking findings of a right frontal lobe biopsy and the postmortem examination were wide calcium deposits located in the cortex and in the adjacent white matter. Intense demyelination as well as areas of neuron poverty were apparent in the necropsy but in the biopsy specimen. The possible interrelationship between such deposition and cranial irradiation and/or i.t. MTX suggests a new iatrogenic disorder.

[Primary adenocarcinoma of the duodenum: a report of 2 cases and a review of the world literature].

We presented two cases of adenocarcinoma of the duodenum diagnosed at the Gastroenterology Unit of the General Hospital of Lidice Dr. Jesús Yerena and reviewed retrospectively the pathology cases from 1980-1990. We review the world literature and found that the most common clinical presentation was as obstructive type. In our cases perforation and jaundice were the presentation.
