[Antiseptics in the combined treatment of patients with perimaxillary abscesses and phlegmons].

The efficacy of local use of antiseptic solutions (chlorhexidine bigluconate, chlorfillipt and furaciline) on clinical presentation and microflora of purulent wounds was studied in 236 patients with maxillofacial abscesses and phlegmons. The wound microflora was represented by a wide spectrum of opportunistic agents. A pronounced therapeutic effect was achieved in patients with staphylococcal infection. Marked resistance to the drugs was noted in alpha-hemolytic streptococcus.

[Epidemiologic characteristics of suppurative-septic diseases in newborn infants at obstetrical hospitals keeping mother and child together and separated].

The advantages of keeping mothers together with their infants at the postnatal period have been revealed; these advantages are manifested by the quick colonization of newborns by maternal microflora, thus preventing their further colonization by opportunistic hospital microbial strains. As compared with common maternity hospitals, those maternity hospitals where mothers are kept together with their infants have less intensive circulation of hospital microflora, and the morbidity rate in purulent and septic diseases among newborns is twice as low in such hospitals. All these findings may be regarded as the epidemiological substantiation of propositions in favor of further development of maternity hospitals where mothers and their infants are kept together.

[Epidemiological assessment of the microbial contamination of the breast milk of healthy women].

The qualitative and quantitative composition of the microflora of human milk has been studied. The dynamics of the occurrence of different microorganisms constituting the microflora at different periods of lactation has been established. The connection between the appearance of septic purulent infections in infants and the microbial contamination of milk has been revealed. The presence of Staphylococcus aureus in human milk in an amount of 500 microbial cells/ml has been found to constitute no menace to healthy infants.

[Significance of epidemiologic, microbiological and immunologic indices for establishing the staphylococcal etiology of diseases].

In this study the importance of epidemiological, microbiological and epidemiological characteristics for the determination of the staphylococcal etiology of the most widespread diseases was determined. Microbiological study was found to be of leading importance for the confirmation of the staphylococcal etiology of diseases with the closed focus of infection. In such diseases 80% of cases were found to be caused by staphylococcal infection. In diseases with the open focus of infection the etiological diagnosis was based on the data of epidemiological history, the results of bacteriological studies in their dynamics. Immunological studies were of auxiliary significance. Staphylococcal etiology was confirmed in 59-72.4% of cases. Staphylococci were found to cause 12.8% of cases of intestinal diseases in little children. The etiology of the diseases was confirmed by the data of epidemiological history, and the results of bacteriological and immunological studies.

[Experience with registration of purulent-septic diseases in newborn infants].

The recording or urgent reports in Moscow since 1974 allowed analyzing the cases of purulent and septic diseases for the period of 1974-1978. The features of the time course and morbidity pattern of the disease, its seasonal fluctuations and the time of onset are presented. Thus, a tendency towards a decrease in morbidity was noted during the above period. The leading role of the diseases of the skin and the subcutaneous fat was established, the morbidity reports were found to fall mostly on the first 2 weeks of the infants' life, and the morbidity rate varied in different maternity hospitals. The recording ensured obtaining current data on morbidity, thus allowing forecast and prevention of the disease.
