[Histomorphological changes in the bronchopulmonary system induced by glass fiber dust].

The article presents materials obtained in experimental study of respiratory symptoms in white rats exposed to glass fiber dust. Intratracheal administration of the dust resulted in acute obstructive bronchitis by the end of third week of exposure. Fibroplastic processes being possible initial signs of pneumofibrosis form by the end of the 4th month.

[Adenomatosis of the proximal segment of the common hepatic duct].

A male of 52 developed fatal adenomatosis localized atypically in the proximal part of the common hepatic duct. The disease was attended by reactive papillomatosis and subsequent mechanical jaundice. The tumor occurrence may be attributed to a malformation of the duct wall mucous glands.

[Myofibroblasts in desmoids].

Ten desmoids are examined electron-microscopically and by the fluorescent antibody method. The cells with the ultrastructural signs of myofibroblasts are found in tumours. Immunomorphologically these cells were found to contain cytoplasmic myosin occurring in the cells of both muscular and non-muscular origin. The structural myosin of smooth muscle cells was not detected in these elements. The above cells are considered to be the modification of fibroblasts which have no relation to the smooth muscle cells. Non-homogeneity of myofibroblast population is noted.

[Diagnosis of leiomyosarcomas using an immunomorphological method].

Indirect Coons method and electron microscopy were used to study in detail 5 observations of spindle-cell sarcomas of the soft tissues histologically diagnosed as leiomyosarcoma. Positive immunofluorescence with an antiserum to myosin of human smooth muscles was observed in 2 cases and confirmed by electron microscopic examinations. Two neoplasms whose cells contained no myosin were verified electron microscopically as tumors of a non-myogenic nature. The validity of the immunomorphological and electron microscopical result depends of the kind of surgical intervention. Positive results of immunofluorescence tests verify the histological diagnosis of the tumor, negative results indicate a non-myogenic nature of the neoplasm.

[Immunomorphological method in the diagnosis of rhabdomyosarcomas].

Eight rhabdomyosarcomas were examined by indirect Coons method using rabbit antisera to myosin of human striated and smooth muscles. Positive immunofluorescence with the antiserum to striated muscle myosin was observed in 6 out of 8 tumors. In the preparations treated with the antiserum to smooth muscle myosin, fluorescence of smooth muscles of the blood vessels was observed. Immunofluorescence was absent in 1 embryonal and 1 pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcomas. The tumors with positive fluorescence included 2 embryonal, 1 alveolar rhabdomyosarcomas, 1 metastasis of testicular rhabdomyosarcoma into the lymph nodes, 1 rhabdomyosarcoma of undifferentiated type, and 1 rhabdomyosarcoma with signs of therapeutic pathomorphosis. The high resolving capacity of the method allows its use for specification ppf histological diagnosis of tumors with different levels of cytodifferentiation.

[Immunomorphologic characteristics of antisera to skeletal and smooth muscle myosin].

Native myosin was obtained from skeletal and smooth muscles and purified as much as possible. Rabbits were immunized with myosin preparations. Antiserum specificity was tested by double diffusion in agarose and by the indirect immunofluorescence technique. Application of the latter technique enabled detecting ballast antibodies in the immune sera. Monospecific antisera with high enough titer were obtained after cross-immunosorption by sorbents from 0.6 M extracts of skeletal and smooth muscles.
