[Activity of the genome of cardiomyocytes as an indicator of the development of adaptive changes in the myocardium following exposure of the central nervous system to electromagnetic fields].

Methods of cardiomyocyte nuclei isolation from the myocard homogeneous mixture, and of cardiomyocyte genome activity estimation were elaborated. In the experiments with hyperlipoproteidemic rats, cardiomyocyte genome activity was shown to reflect the primary adaptive changes in the myocard, and to serve a reliable index of their influence on the CNS regulatory centres exposed to electromagnetic field, which is used for hyperlipoproteidemia treatment. The cardiomyocyte genome activity was used to distinguish between three types of development of adaptive reactions in the myocard.

[Immunodepressive effect of transcerebral lasers].

The aim of the present paper was to study the effect of infrared laser radiation on endocrine regulation of immunogenesis and on endogenic opioid system. For this purpose experiments on rabbits were carried out. The animals underwent transcerebral radiation with subsequent induction of the primary immune response (PIR) to thymus-dependent antigen (sheep red blood cells). The PIR suppression was revealed in all test animals. It was more graphically expressed in rabbits exposed to impulse radiation. Immunodepression was combined with the increase of glucocorticoid activity of adrenal cortex, while no significant changes in thyroid hormones were registered. The 0.08 Joles impulse radiation cause a palpable fall in opioid concentration in blood plasma, the fact, which can be possibly accounted for the rapid exhaustion of opioid synthesis after their stimulation due to laser radiation.

[Hormonal changes shortly after surgery in patients operated for stomach ulcer].

The content of gastrin, pituitary thyrotropin hormone (TTH), the thyroid hormones thyroxin (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), and 11-OCS in blood serum and the daily catecholamine content in urine were studied in 86 patients in the early periods, 2-4 weeks, after resection of the stomach or selective proximal vagotomy (SPV). The content of gastrin, TTH, T4, and 11-OCS in blood was reduced and catecholamine excretion diminished in patients after gastric resection. After SPV the concentration of gastrin increased and that of TTH reduced. A certain relationship between the clinical course of peptic ulcer and the indices studied was revealed. The application of rehabilitation measures in the early periods after operations on the stomach improves the neuroendocrine regulation in the organism and the functional condition of the alimentary organs.

[Non-medicinal methods of correction of immune disorders in peptic ulcer patients].

The authors provide the immunological and radioimmunological data on 148 patients suffering from duodenal ulcer different in size. Material alterations were revealed in the cellular and humoral components of immunity and in the pituitary-thyroid system. Based on the investigations carried out it has been shown that natural therapeutic factors, namely mud applications made according to an original method, being mediated via the endocrine system stimulate the cellular component of immunity, reduce the degree of autoaggression, counteract imbalance of the humoral component of immunity, thereby promoting the acceleration of the restorative and regenerative processes in patients suffering from duodenal ulcer.

[The immunomodulating action of microwaves in the induction of an immune response to Vi antigen].

In this work the possibility of using microwaves for immunomodulation in the immunization of animals with thymus-independent antigen was studied. The projection zones of the thymus and adrenal glands of the test animals were subjected to the action of decimeter, or ultrahigh frequency (UHF), waves, while the corresponding zones of the control animals were subjected to imitation UHF irradiation. Vi-antigen was shown to be a thymus-independent antigen for rabbits (according to the results of the evaluation of the functional state of thymocytes, as manifested by the adsorption of acridine orange by the chromatin of thymocyte nuclei and by the content of RNA and DNA in the thymus). The action of UHF waves on the projection zone of the thymus was accompanied by a decrease in the glucocorticoid activity of the adrenal cortex, observed simultaneously with a pronounced immunostimulating effect. The UHF irradiation of the zone of the adrenal glands was accompanied by immunosuppression in combination with enhanced glucocorticoid activity of the adrenal cortex.

Dynamics of spermatogenesis, hormonal and immune response of patients suffering from chronic prostatitis and sterility under bitemporal treatment with an ultra-high frequency electric field.

A new method of treatment of patients with chronic prostatitis and sterility by means of ultra-high frequency (60 W) electric field applied bitemporally has been proposed. During treatment 82% of the patients showed an increase in the number of spermatozoa in 1 ml of ejaculate; the percentage of movable and morphologically normal spermatozoa has increased. Patients with chronic prostatitis and sterility showed in the prostatic secrete before treatment a predominance of B-lymphocytes over T-lymphocytes. After treatment the number of T-lymphocytes in the prostatic secrete increased and the content of B-lymphocytes decreased. In the subpopulation of T-lymphocytes the content of T-suppressors increased, the content of T-helpers and O-lymphocytes decreased. At the same time patients with sterility showed an increase in blood testosterone level and an FSH decrease. Out of 67 wives of the patients with sterility 50 reported pregnancy within 6 months after beginning of the treatment.

Content of glucocorticoid type III receptors in tissue cytosol.

The Scatchard analysis was used to determine the association and dissociation constants and the number of binding sites for corticosterone over a glucocorticoid type III receptor in high-speed cytosol from liver, kidneys, heart and lungs of intact male rats after coal adsorption of endogenous glucocorticoids. The association constants for the liver, kidney, heart and lung cytosols were 0.48 X 10(10) M-1, 0.34 X 10(10) M-1, 0.175 X 10(10) M-1 and 0.96 X 10(10) M-1, respectively, and the binding site numbers 0.57 X 10(-3), 2.4 X 10(-10), 4.5 X 10(-13) and 6.4 X 10(-13) mole/mg protein, respectively. The authors have suggested a hypothesis that glococorticoid type III receptors take part in regulating the intracellular transport of glucocorticoids.

Effect of transformed steroid compounds on mRNA synthesis and glucocorticoid-receptor interaction in the thymocytes of adrenalectomized rats.

In tests on a thymocyte culture from adrenalectomized rats, we studied the effect of fifty synthetized transformed steroid compounds, containing delta 4-keto-or delta 5-3-oxygroups in ring A, oxygen containing substituents in ring D, and a superstructured 20-keto side chain, on the glucocorticoid and antiglucocorticoid effects and steroid-receptor interaction. Ten compounds (conc. 10(-6)M) competed with 3H-triamcinolone acetonide for binding the thymocytes over the cytosol glucocorticoid receptor. Steroid compounds containing a delta 4-3-ketogroup (conc. 10(-6)M) suppress inclusion of 3H-uridine in thymocyte RNA more than compounds containing a delta 5-3-oxygroup. An antiglucocorticoid effect on thymocyte function is produced by 16,17 alpha-isopropylidendioxy-21-methylidene-pregn-5-en-3 beta-ol-20-one, 16,17 alpha-isopropylidendioxy-pregn-5-en-3 beta-ol-20-one and 16,17 alpha-isopropylidendioxy-21 a-methyl-21, [21a]-epoxy-21-homopregn-4-en-3, 20-dione at concentration of 10(-6) M.

Level of glucocorticoid receptors in male rat liver under stress.

The binding of dexamethasone and corticosterone by specific glucocorticoid cytoplasmic liver receptors has been studied in intact, adrenalectomized and stressed male Wistar rats. The dissociation constants measured for receptor-hormone complexes were 7.2 x 10(-9) M for dexamethasone and 5.0 x 10(-9) M for corticosterone. Under 48 hour immobilisation stress, the number of binding sites on a dexamethasone-binding receptor was found to diminish from 2.9 x 10(-13) mol/mg protein (for intact rats) to 0.8 x 10(-13) mol/mg protein (for stressed rats). The amount of binding sites on a transcortin-like receptor decreased from 10 x 10(-14) mol/mg protein (in the intact rats) to 2.8 x 10(-14) mol/mg protein (in the stressed ones). Thus above data indicated certain reduction in binding site number for dexamethasone and corticosterone on the specific cytoplasmic receptors of rat liver under immobilisation stress.

[The biological action of a musically modulated electric current].

The authors suggest to use music-modulated electric current as an adequate physiologic stimulator and stress-limiting factor as it appeared to enhance functional ability of the central nervous system and activate biosynthesis in the tissues supporting active adaptive reactions.

[Effect of epiphysectomy on the circadian rhythm of the glucocorticoid, androgen, estrogen and gestagen functions of the endocrine organs].

Investigations were carried out on intact, pseudoectomized and epiphysectomized Wistar rats (male and female) with the following illumination regimen: light--10 hours, darkness--14 hours. By the method of competitive protein binding and by fluorimetry a determination was made of the blood content of corticosterone, estrogens, androgens and gestagens. The peripheral blood content of the hormones under study in the intact animals corresponded to literature data. In comparison with the intact animals epiphysectomy changed the circadian rhythm of the blood corticosterone (11-OCS) level. In comparison with the pseudoepiphysectomized animals, in the epiphysectomized animals the progesterone content fell significantly at 6 a.m., at noon, and at 6 p.m. In comparison with the intact group, under the effect of epiphysectomy estrogen and androgen content increased at almost all the observation hours.

[Recovery processes in the cerebral cortex, myocardium and thymus of rats with experimental atherosclerosis exposed to low-frequency electromagnetic fields on the head].

Studies of animals with experimental sclerosis has shown that a course of 10 procedures of alternative magnetic field (AMF) (50 Hz, 30 mT, 3 min daily) promotes partial recovery of the lipid spectrum and corrects vasomotor-metabolic disturbances in the cerebral cortex, myocardium and thymus caused by atherosclerosis. Combination of AMF with constant magnetic field in the same regime and location does not produce a hypolipidemic effect in atherosclerotic animals and this, in combination with increased vascular permeability may aggravate the condition. Activated microcirculation, antioxidant and antiproteinase effects in activation of biosynthetic processes in the cerebral cortex reflect inhibition in the CNS in this combined effect and create conditions for a hypotensive effect.
