[Lipoxin B, an enhancing factor of spontaneous platelet aggregation in whole blood].

The arachidonic acid metabolites, lipoxin B (5,14,15-trihydroxy-6,8,10,12-eicosatetraenoate) and 5,15-dihydroxy-eicosatetraenoate were shown to possess a marked effect on platelet aggregation and procoagulant activity. Lipoxin B increases and 5,15-dihydroxy-eicosatetraenoate decreases spontaneous platelet aggregation and procoagulant activity when added at various concentrations. The drugs tested were found to have no direct action on blood coagulation.

[Effects of lipoxin B on colony-forming capacity of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells in diffusion chambers].

The lipoxin B (5, 14, 15-trihydroxy-6, 8, 10, 12-eicosatetraenoate) obtained by the enzymatic peroxidation of 5, 15-dihydroxy-6, 8, 11, 13-eicosatetraenoate (5, 15-DHETE) with the homogenous rabbit reticulocytes lipoxygenase and purified by HPLC stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of granulocyte-monocyte colony formation units (CFU-GMdc) of human peripheral blood at 3.6 X 10(-9) 3.6 X 10(-8)M in diffusion chamber placed in mouse abdominal cavity. The lipoxin B precursors namely 5,15-DHETE and arachidonic acid had stimulating influence at about 10(-6) and 10(-3)M respectively. The formation of polynuclear cells under the action of the studied lipoxygenase metabolites of the arachidonic acid was shown.

[The effect of cholesterol oxidation products on the disruption of lipid metabolism and atherosclerotic damage of the aorta in rabbits].

Feeding of rabbits with a cholesterol preparation containing 3-5% of cholesterol autooxidation products promotes elevation of plasma cholesterol and atherogenic low- and very-low-density lipoproteins as well as accumulation of neutral lipids (largely, of cholesterol ether) in hepatocytes and intramural arteries of the myocardium. The development of massive aortic lipoidosis can be also attributed to the intake of relevant products. The similar dose of non-oxidized cholesterol did not induce marked or any changes at all in rabbits lipid metabolism and aortic status. The evidence obtained indicates an essential role of food exogenic products of cholesterol oxidation in mechanisms of hypercholesterolemia development and atherosclerotic involvement of vascular walls.

[Decrease in the degree of lipoid infiltration of rabbit tissues during feeding with cholesterol freed from autoxidation products].

Lipid accumulation in the rabbit liver and myocardium has been investigated by histochemical and biochemical methods. The rabbits received cholesterol that contained 5% of autooxidation products or purified cholesterol. Lipid accumulation took place in the liver and intramural myocardial vessels during feeding of rabbits with autooxidated cholesterol. Feeding with pure cholesterol free from autooxidation products caused but slight changes or no changes at all.
