[Morphological evaluation of reconstructive operations on the bronchi using a microsurgical technic in an experiment].

Morphological study of bronchial anastomoses repair made with or without microsurgical techniques has been performed in 30 mongrel dogs. Comparative analysis of bronchoscopy, microscopy and scanning electronic microscopy data shows earlier epithelialization, more regular conjunction of bronchial tube and less marked inflammation in anastomosis made with microsurgical techniques. The fact may be explained by a less pronounced traumatization of bronchial tissues with microinstruments and also by tight suture of mucosal layer which creates favourable conditions for repair of anastomosis per primam.

[Ultrastructure of the surface of the epithelial layer in esophagitis].

Three-dimensional ultrastructure of surface epithelial layer of the oesophagus was studied on biopsy specimens obtained from 10 patients aged 25-55 with various forms of oesophagitis and on one autopsy case of Candida oesophagitis. Common stereo-ultrastructural features of the studied forms of oesophagitis were desquamation, abundance of micro-organisms on the surface and leukocyte migration through the widened intercellular junctions.

[Characteristics of the ultrastructure of the epithelium of the esophageal mucosa of essentially healthy subjects].

Ultrastructure of epithelial surface of the esophageal mucous membrane has been studied in nine practically healthy persons at the age of 32-46 years. The material has been obtained at prophylactic esophagoscopy. The surface of the epithelial layer cells is covered with microfolds 100-200 nm wide and 200-600 nm tall forming labyrinth-like patterns. According to the ultrastructural character of the apical surface of the cells, it is possible to judge about their functional state. The characteristics of the ultrastructure of the fracture surface of the epithelial layer is presented. The data obtained can serve as a base for estimation and differential diagnosis of pathological processes in the organ.

[Pathomorphology of the mucous membrane of the human nose exposed to high altitudes].

Studies of semi-thin sections, transmission and scanning electron microscopy of human nasal mucosa under conditions of highlands (3375 m above sea level) established that after two weeks of stay at this height disadaptive changes of the nasal mucosa include edema, leukocyte infiltration, destructive changes in the cells of tegmental epithelium and their focal desquamation. Within one month disadaptive changes become a chronic process accompanied by metaplasia of respiratory epithelium into multilayer squamous epithelium.

[Changes in the epithelial coat of the nasal mucosa in adaptation to high altitude].

The surface of the epithelial layer of the nasal mucosa of rabbits was examined by scanning electron microscopy during adaptation to high-altitude conditions. Hyperfunction of the mucosa that was manifested morphologically in the increased number of goblet cells, intensification of their secretion and in the appearance of piriform protrusions at the apical surface of ciliated cells were observed at an early period of adaptation. The changes enumerated tended to normalization after the animals stayed in high mountains for a month. These data allow the conclusion about the compensatory and adaptive character of the changes recorded and regarding one month as a minimal period required for a body to adapt to the extreme high-altitude conditions.

[Ultrastructure of the epithelial surface of the nasal mucosa in the rabbit].

By means of the electron scanning microscopy method the ultrastructure of the apical surface of epitheliocytes has been studied in the mucous membrane and in the respiratory area of the rabbit nose. According to the structure of the surface, ciliary, goblet and microvillous cells are distinguished. There are about 200 cilia on the surface of the ciliary cell. Cells at various stages of ciliogenesis are revealed, that is a certain proof of a constant renovation of the epithelial cells and that its transport function is kept. Various phases of the goblet cells secretory cycle have been followed. Types of the goblet cell secretion are demonstrated. The glandular ducts opening on the surface of the epithelial layer are surrounded, as a rule, with ciliary cells. On the epithelial surface, freely lying lymphocytes are revealed; they participate in local immunity.

[Reaction of rat peritoneal mesothelial cells in aseptic and bacterial peritonitis].

Transmission and scanning electron microscopy were used to examine mesothelial cells of the rat peritoneum in aseptic peritonitis caused by intraperitoneal starch injections and in bacterial peritonitis induced by injury to the large intestine. Active contraction of the mesotheliocytes was recorded in early stages of both the types of peritonitis. In aseptic peritonitis, that contraction was replaced by relaxation of the cells, whereas in bacterial peritonitis, by dystrophy and desquamation.

[Calculator for micrometric analysis of histological structures from negatives, photographic plates and photographs].

The description of a counting device for morphometric analysis of histological structures from negatives, photographic plates and photographs, assembled on the basis of the colony counter and a binocular attachment to MBC-1 microscope, is presented. The counting of dots or histological structures on a definite area is performed using an electrical pen. The results are recorded by the counter. The proposed device allows a morphometric analysis in various types of morphological investigations to be carried out rapidly and with a sufficient precision.

[Stereoultrastructure of placenta and fetal membranes in normal pregnancy in women living in the Mid-North-East of Russia].

The surface of placenta was studied by scanning electron microscopy. Intercellular edema, desquamation of some amniotic cells, increased number of terminal chorionic villi and syncytial nodes, areas deprived of microvilli were found in the placenta at physiological 40-week pregnancy and delivery. These changes are of an adaptive nature.
