[Analysis of the Greulich-Pyle atlas using the TW2 and TW2-A method].

Authors analyze Greulich and Pyle's atlas, using TW2 and TW2-A methods, in their three respective modalities (20B, C, RUS). They observe that there are differences between three variables and GP. Results are compared with those of other authors concluding that use of numerical methods adapted to population in study are the ideal ones.

[Anthropometric characteristics of adolescents with primary epiphysiolysis].

The authors have studied five cases of adolescents, four girls and one boy, affected of slipped capital femoral epiphysis, aged between twelve and fourteen years. They describe some clinical particularities and the analytical findings. The anthropometrical studies confirm that slipped capital femoral epiphysis is an entity observed in adolescents with overweight and obesity. The parameter showing fat, at the braquial and body level, are over two standard deviation of the local normal patterns.

[Periosteal desmoid].

A case of periosteal desmoid is studied. Being of a rather often incidence in children it might be confused with others lesions located on distal femoral metaphysis and which sometimes form part of pathology typical of the developing skeleton as cortical defects and non osteogenic fibromas and the others which might be a question of malignant process. Periosteal desmoid is characterized by appearing as a radiolucent lesion with periosteal speculation of the dorsomedial cortical wall of the medial femoral condyle, on adductor insertion zone. Simple radiology study in these lesions must be emphasized, without necessity to use more cruel techniques.

[Obesity in adolescence].

Obesity, pathological increase of body fat, has an incidence about 10-15% between adolescents in developed countries. Measurement of skinfolds determines the amount of subcutaneous fat in humans, establishing difference between normal and obese people in both sexes. It is admitted that most of the human obesity have a polygenic origin and that nutritional habits of adolescents in the last few years are able to increase obesity. This nutritional problem usually is associated with a great number of metabolic, bone and psychological disorders. Treatment is essentially based in a caloric restriction diet and in an increase of physical exercise. However, it is preferable to prevent the state of obesity because its treatment usually has a bad response.
