[Dosage of ionized calcium in osteo-articular pathology].

The dosage of calcium ionized serum using a selective electrode, was performed in a series of controls and patients with osteo-articular diseases. Normal values were 43 mg/l between 20 and 50 years of age, and 41 mg/l after 60 years. The level of ionized calcium, when given as a percentage of total blood calcium, did not decrease with age (normal value : 44%). It was increased in hyper-parathyroidism, rhumatoid polyarthritis and lytic bone metastasis. It did not vary in Paget's disease, osteoporosis, osteomalacia, condensing metastasis, Kahler's disease and spasmophilia. The ionized calcium in definitely diminished in hypoparathyroidism.

[Early isotopic synoviorthesis during rheumatoid polyarthritis (RP)].

The authors report the results of 1258 chemical synovectomies carried out in subjects with rheumatoid polyarthritis on joints at Steinbrocker stage I and of 470 chemical synovectomies carried out during the first year of evolution of rheumatoid polyarthritis. Comparison with the results of chemical synovectomy carried out later demonstrate the superiority of early chemical synovectomy.

[Silicon, bone tissue and immunity].

The authors study the activity of a soluble salt of silicium on the evolution of the trabecular bone volume (TBV). They note a significant increase in the TBV, both in drinkable and in injectable form, in relation to a control population not receiving osteotrope medication. They moreover note, in a series of patients treated with silicium compared to a control group, a net increase in circulating lymphocytes and immunoglobulins (especially IgG).
