[Intraoperative diagnostic isotopic bone scanning].

Advantages of intraoperative bone scintigraphy are presented on the basis of surgical treatment of 50 osteomyelitis patients. Tc99m was given either intravenously or into the fistula and the radiation was measured by a set of scintillating probe and radiometer. Small size, simple handling and quick measurement make this set extremely useful for intraoperative diagnostics contributing to complete removal of infected tissue from the operating site. This method requires only one tenth of usual dose of radioisotope what must be recognized as an additional advantage.

[Evaluation of the hip joint after Kee-Farrar total hip arthroplasty from the aspect of certain clinical biomechanical criteria].

Hundred hips in 84 arthritic patients after Mc Kee-Farrar total hip arthroplasty were reviewed. Biomechanical measurements in operated, arthritic non-operated and normal hips were compared. The moment of adductive forces, adductive forces, the strength of abductors, Hamacher-Roesler index and Woźny coefficient were determined. In nonoperated arthritic hips these measurements were abnormal. They were close to normal values in operated hips with negative Trendelenburg sign.

[Radiological evaluation of the hip joint after osteotomy of the innominate by the Salter method].

An evaluation of the treatment results of Salter osteotomy in 21 patients aged 3.7 years with unilateral congenital subluxation of the hip joint was made. After one-year-follow-up, the treatment result was excellent in all the cases. An analysis of the X-ray pictures revealed that the peripheral fragment of the osteotomized bone was displaced 4 mm laterally, acetabular roof inclination (acetabular index) decreased about 4 mm on the average. In consequence, the length of the acetabular roof increased about 11 mm. The authors think that Salter osteotomy in children aged over 3 years is recommended if the acetabular roof inclination angle/does not exceed 45 degrees; over this value and especially when the roof is short, Dega transiliac osteotomy should be performed.

[Electric excitability of the peroneal muscles in congenital equinovarus deformity].

Irritability of the peroneal muscles by stimuli of the rectangular current in infants with congenital club foot was examined. Examinations were performed immediately before surgery in patients in general Ketamine anesthesia. The first group contained children with unilateral congenital club foot and the normal extremity was examined for comparison. In the group of children with bilateral club foot, one of the feet was examined twice about 4 months apart. A decrease of irritability of the peroneal muscles was found before operation. After operation this irritability reached the proper values. The authors think that the peroneal muscles in congenital club foot are stretched and that after correction of deformation their length and tension become normal.
