An analytical approach to the estimation of the RD parameter for this algorithm has been developed; up to the latest time this parameter was chosen by the investigators by the 'try and miss' technique, based on the scientist's intuition. Three interactive formulae for the calculation of the RD parameter were derived, differing by the degree of the parameter modulation in the iterative procedure of the search for the precise value. The method for estimation of glucose utilization rate was adapted for the clamp method results obtained with a biostator; this method was for the first time used in the semiautomated glycemia regulation, that may improve the accuracy of glucose tolerance estimation.
Water-soluble group B vitamins metabolism was studied over the course of streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus in rats fed semisynthetic isocaloric diets containing 18 and 50% of protein. A high-protein diet in diabetes mellitus does not influence riboflavin metabolism disordered in this disease but reduced 4-pyridoxyl acid excretion to the level characteristic of healthy animals. The observed trend to an increase of liver nicotinamide coenzymes levels and of 1-methylnicotinamide urinary excretion reflects increased niacin synthesis from the diet protein tryptophan, for niacin level is reduced in diabetes.
An original mathematical model of human energy exchange was developed and implemented on a PC. Energy exchange of healthy volunteers on a free diet and physical activity was simulated by inputting examinees' individualized parameters in the model: total body mass, fatty and lean tissue, nutritional energy capacity, power inputs. The main purpose was to study the reliability of prediction of the time course of total body mass with relation to a dietary caloric value and physical activity of an examinee, which was found to be necessary for working out an optimum metabolic diet, e.g. for patients with diabetes mellitus and adiposity. The authors propose a complete text of a computer program which can be used in research institutes and hospitals.

Glycemia level in peripheral circulation is the basic parameter of diabetes diagnosing as well as a criteria of treatment effectiveness. Also there are a lot of the experimental data concerns glucose metabolism in different parts of the circulation. This permits to calculate so called circulatory topography of glycemia--glucose level in different parts of the circulation. As a result of the calculation was shown that in DM1 glycemia level is elevated in insulin-independent tissues even when glycemia level is normal in clinically useful peripheral circulation. These results can explain the predisposal of DM1 patients to diabetic retinopathy and nephropathy because eyes and kidney are the insulin-independent tissues. The reason why changes circulatory topography of glycemia in DM1 is changes in prime insulin delivery in circulation: insulin medication input not in the portal vein of hepar as in normal state but in peripheral circulation. It was shown that stable glycemia level in DM1 could be reached only in case of hepatic insulin-resistance.
Wistar rats were kept on a synthetic ration with different percentage of proteins (18, 9 and 50%) for 2 weeks. Then they were given subcutaneous injections of alloxan at a dose of 200 micrograms/kg of body mass. In some animals glycemia was established on the 7th day after the first administration of alloxan, in others--on the 3rd day after repeated administration of alloxan at a dose of 150 micrograms/kg of body mass. The animals were decapitated on the 14th and 30th day after establishing a hyperglycemic condition. Lethality percentage, a degree of glycemia, and at the end of the experiment insulinemia, body mass indices, indices for some organs were evaluated. A ration with an optimum and high content of protein was shown to decrease lethality percentage, reducing risks developing of a hyperglycemic condition, caused by alloxan. A ration with a high content of protein decreased a degree of severity of a diabetic condition, caused by alloxan.
