[Chemotherapeutics for treatment of influenza and other viral respiratory tract infections in children].

Therapeutic efficacy of remantadine and arbidole was studied in the clinical and laboratory observation of pediatric in- and outpatients with grippe and mixed viral infections in various seasonal epidemic. In the trial of remantadine 742 school children and 60 children at the age of 3 to 6 years with type A, B or A + B grippe, grippe in association with other acute viral respiratory tract infections or acute viral respiratory tract infections of nongrippe etiology were observed. 402 and 400 of them were given remantadine and placebo respectively. The drug was used in a single dose of 1.5 mg/kg body weight 3 times a day for 3 days. In the trial of arbidole 158 children at the age of 1 to 14 years with type A grippe, grippe + acute viral respiratory tract infection and acute viral respiratory tract infection of nongrippe etiology were observed. The arbidole daily dose of 10 mg/kg body weight was given in 4 portions for 5 days. Both the drugs were shown to be therapeutically efficient in all the grippe types and acute viral respiratory tract infections. The highest efficacy was observed when the use of the drugs was started at the early stages. With the use of the drugs the periods of fever, other intoxication signs and virus isolation decreased. No adverse reactions were recorded. The drugs had no inhibitory effect on the cellular and humoral immunity and on production of antiviral antibodies. The dynamics of the indices of the cellular immunity and macrophages confirmed the arbidole immunostimulating action.

[The mechanisms of the formation of heterologous resistance in peroral immunization with a complex anti-influenza preparation].

The paper presents experimental findings of the combined antiinfluenza drug (inactivated influenza vaccine + an interferon inducer - an immunogenetic anstimulator - polysaccharide 1,3beta-glucan). The oral immunization with the drug induces antibody accumulation in the secretions of the upper airway and blood sera in defense titers, interferon synthesis at days 1-3 postadministration, forms murine resistance to infection with homologous and heterologous viruses, enhances the functional activity of alveolar macrophages.

[Immune replacement therapy in RS infection].

Respiratory syncytial (RS) virus is the main cause of severe respiratory infections in newborns and infants during the first year of life. In the recent years, search is under way for chemo- and immune replacement therapy preparations for etiotropic RS-infection therapy. Procedures have been developed to prepare immunoglobulins and Chigain preparations having a target-oriented action. They were clinically tested. There was a positive dynamics in the clinical manifestations of the disease and a positive influence on immunological parameters in children.

[Antibody formation in the blood and respiratory tract secretions following one-time and repeat immunization with an inactivated influenza vaccine].

Eighty nine volunteers were under study. They were immunized by inactivated vaccine from influenza viruses A(H1N1)+A(H3N2) one time or every year during 4 to 6 years. Vaccine in dosage of 0.2 ml was applied intracutaneously. Under detailed clinical study deflections of health were not over standard. Accumulation of antibodies was determined to immunogens of the vaccine and to virus A/Leningrad/X/83(H3N2), which was in epidemic circulation 3 years later. Intensity of relative increase of antibodies with repeated immunization was 1.5 to 2 times lower. Maximum concentrations of antibodies were found in a week after vaccination. Immunization didn't cause change of titres of secretory antibodies and concentration of immunoglobulin isotopes G, M, A and E in sera and secretions.

[Importance of secretory antibodies in nonsusceptibility to influenza B disease and the prevention of the spread of this virus].

Under the conditions of the natural outbreak of influenza B a rise in the level of antibodies in the blood serum and respiratory tract secretions has been found to occur in nonimmunized persons during this disease. Secretory antibodies, along with serum antibodies and in interaction with them, prevent the development of clinically manifest influenza. The asymptomatic form of influenza infection has been revealed: during this form of the disease the response of the body is limited to the local immunity system.

[Interaction of different types of cells in production of anti-influenzal antibodies. IV. Stimulation of B-lymphocytes by several biologically active substances].

Various biologicall-active preparations such as extracts of syngenous and allogenous thymus and LP S of Gram negative bacteria were administered to sublethally irradiated mice ascertain a possibility of replacement of T-lymphocytes in the production of antibodies to influenza virus. It appeared that the function of T-lymphocytes participating in the production of antibodies to influenza virus in mice could be replaced by the administration to these animals of extracts of the syngenous and allogenous thymus and LP S of Gram negative bacteria.

[Action of different cell types in influenza antibody production. 5. Keeping the immunologic memory to influenza virus A serotype by B- and T-lymphocytes].

The authors present data on the cooperation of the B- and T-lymphocytes in secondary immunological response to the antigens of influenza virus of serological type A. Cells of the spleen, bone marrow and the thymus in various combinations from the intact and immunized animals were transplanted to sublethally irradiated recipients; influenza virus was administered at the same time. Immunological memory to the virus antigens of serological type A proved to be preserved both by the B- and T-lymphocytes. Both in the primary and in the secondary response B-lymphocytes served as the precursors of cells-producers of antibodies.

[Interaction of various types of cells in the production of anti-influenzal antibodies. III. Cooperation of B- and T-lymphocytes in the production of antibodies to the influenza virus].

Bone marrow and thymus cells of syngenous donors were transplanted to sublethally irradiated mice to study the interaction between the B- and T-lymphocytes in the production of antibodies to the influenza virus. Influenza virus proved to be referred to the thymus-dependent antigens; both types of the lymphocytes participated in the antibody production. The T-lymphocyte function could not be replaced by an increase in the dose of the antigen and of the amount of B-lymphocytes. The ratio of the B- and T-lymphocytes optimal for the antibody production was 1:1 or 1:2.

[Interaction of cells of the lymphoid organs in the production of antibodies against the influenza virus. Report 1. Localization of the virus in the cells of the spleen].

A study was made of localization of crude and inactivated influenza virus injected intravenously and intraperitoneally. Macrophages were found to engulf the virus penetrating into the spleen; this was shown by the quantitative and qualitative immunofluorescent method, elcetron microscopy and inoculation to syngenous recipients of homogenates of macrophagal and lymphocytic fractions of splenic cells. No virus was revealed in the lymphocytes.

[Basic characteristics of a live influenza vaccine for children from type A influenza (H1N1 and H3N2) used separately and in combination].

The study of safety and immunizing properties of a live influenza vaccine from influenza viruses type A (H1N1) and A (H3N2) used separately and in combination was carried out in 2461 children ranging in age from 3 to 15 years. The possibility of combining two influenza type A viruses with similar biological activity was demonstrated. The vaccine exerted no harmful effect in children and actively stimulated the production of antihemagglutinating, antineuraminidase, and secretory antibodies and enhanced the formation of cell-mediated immunity.
