[The fixed omentum syndrome].

Ten cases of the fixed omentum syndrome which appeared in women operated on organs of the small pelvis are discussed. The cause of adhesions of the greater omentum and the parietal peritoneum and internal organs was the operative trauma in combination with inflammatory alterations of the peritoneum. The surgical treatment consisted in the division of adhesions of the greater omentum, resection of the omentum portion being fulfilled in cases of its cicatricial alterations. Complete healing was noted in all the patients.

[Spiral autovenous mesocaval shunt in portal hypertension syndrome].

The H-shaped mesenteriocaval shunt with the autovenous transplant was made in 22 patients with the intrahepatic form of portal hypertension. An original method developed by the authors was used. Two patients died after the operation. The rest of the patients were found to have decreased portal hypertension, retained hepatopetal circulation along the portal vein, no encephalopathy and no recurrent bleedings from the varicose veins of the esophagus.

[Changes in EEG and higher nervous activity of rats during cerebral anti-ischemic protection by acelysin].

The water-soluble aspirin (acelysin) has been used as an anti-ischaemic protector when injected in the dose of 150 mg/kg 30 min before ischaemia. The EEG has been registered during the whole period of experiment and the total EEG power index has been calculated. The higher nervous activity has been evaluated during analysis of rat's abilities for elaboration of conditional reflex of an active escape reaction in Y-labyrinth. The results have demonstrated the complete rehabilitation and restoration of brain functional activity 8 days after endurance of brain ischaemia under protection of acelisin.

[The use of the CO2 laser in the surgical treatment of benign breast diseases].

Benign diseases of the breast of a noninflammatory character are a widely encountered pathological condition. Most surgeons claim the nodular form of mastopathy to be a precancer. Sectoral resection of the breast is the only grounded and justified method for its treatment. Unfortunately, wound complications develop often in the postoperative period, which increases the duration of in-patients treatment, prolongs the period of restoration of the working capacity, and leads to the formation of coarse scars which disfigure the breast. Dissatisfaction with the results is also explained by the development of a recurrence in a certain percent of cases. The results of treatment in 2 groups of patients were compared: patients of the main group (group 1) were operated on with the use of the CO2-laser, those of the control group (group 2) were operated on by the traditional method. Analysis of the results of treatment shows that the modified method of sectoral resection has advantages over the traditional method and can therefore be recommended for wide introduction into clinical practice.

[Effects of cardiac denervation on its function in asphyxia].

It has been established in 23 experiments on dogs that during asphyxia the reactions of denervated heart which were directed toward compensation of hypoxia in the whole organism and towards preservation of myocardium from hypoxia damages were slower than that in the norm. All these processes led to the overloading of myocardium.

[Changes in hemodynamics during increase of functional loading of the cardiovascular system].

It has been executed 26 experiments on dogs in order to investigate the changes of haemodynamics during narrowing of ascending aorta and brain ischaemia. It has been setted during investigation, that cardiovascular system possesses high compensatory abilities. This system fully restored the disorders in blood circulation during 3 minutes of occlusion of brachiocephalic trunk or during 5 minutes of narrowing. The restoration of normal blood circulation after 5 minutes leads to normalization of indicators of haemodynamics also in 5 minutes and does not lead to decompensation of cardiac function. The heart decreases the rate of contractions in order to support the high level of its force in such a conditions.

[Effects of weak solutions of aldehydes on EEG changes in rats].

Alternations of EEG have been investigated after single intraarterial infusion of formaldehyde, glutaric aldehyde and its mixture in 50 adult male rats. The dissolved solutions of aldehydes were shown to have complicated inhibitive activity which consists of two phases. The first phase of EEG inhibition rapidly develops and it isn't very long in its duration. The second one is much more durable. Formaldehyde causes the first phase of inhibition in general, though glutaric aldehyde promotes especially the appearance of the second phase. The mixture of two aldehydes demonstrates synergic activity which is shown as significant increase of EEG inhibition as compared to individual inhibitive activity of aldehydes. The inhibitive influence of aldehydes is fully reversible, nonspecific and doesn't cause post-experimental disorders. The highest effect of brain protection from ischaemia damages coincides with development of maximum inhibition of specific brain functions during the second phase of EEG depression.

[Characteristics of thrombocyte aggregation properties in portal hypertension syndrome complicated by esophagogastric hemorrhage].

An investigation of ADP-induced aggregation of thrombocytes in 62 patients with the portal hypertension syndrome has revealed pronounced functional alterations of blood platelets characterized by a lower aggregation rate, lower rate and degree of thrombocyte deaggregation. More profound alterations were found in patients with cirrhosis of the liver. It was established that the decreased rate and degree of the thrombocyte deaggregation with the growing aggregation rate, change of the aggregation into the irreversible form is a very dangerous portent of gastrointestinal bleeding.

[Reversible deep whole-body hypothermia in rats].

The effect of deep hypothermia on the rat's organism was investigated without the use of hypercapnic hypoxia or administration of medicine. The possibility of resuscitation and rehabilitation of rats after deep hypothermia depending on different rate of heating have been also studied. It has been observed that the cardiac activity stopped at about 3 degrees C. We supposed that the extremely intensive heating and temperature rise of an organism were both limiting factors. We have discovered that the low intensity of heating was the next factor of limitation which was connected with the duration of clinical death. These experiments showed that the intensive cooling and heating (about 0.4 degrees C per min.) are the best for resuscitation and rehabilitation after deep hypothermia.
