[Lipid metabolic disorders in patients with glomerulonephritis in the presence of a herpetic infection].

Abnormalities were studied of lipid metabolism in patients with glomerulonephritis (GN) depending on the presence of herpes infection (antibodies to herpes simplex virus and cytomegalovirus) versus similar indices in GN patients free from this infection (n = 75). Of these, 34 presented with the urinary syndrome (US), 41 had nephrotic syndrome (NS). Abnormalities of lipid metabolism in GN patients (irrespective of the syndrome) were shown to be more manifest in the presence of herpes infection. GN severity (in comparative evaluation within one entity) was not found to be dependent on the viral infection but disturbances in functional indices for the liver in patients in its presence occurred far more frequently. More profound abnormalities of lipid metabolism in GN patients in the presence of herpes virus infection can be a factor in GN chronization, affect the rate of progression of not only atherosclerotic lesions of kidneys but of glomerulosclerosis as well.

[Prognosis of pretreatment outcome in patients with acute glomerulonephritis after an immunological review].

Expediency has been shown for the immunological investigation to be done in those patients with acute glomerulonephritis in the nephrosis stage before the start of treatment to find out relevant approaches to such patients. The most informative parameters characterizing immunity include the peripheral blood absolute content T-lymphocytes, relative and absolute content of B-lymphocytes in the peripheral blood, IgA, IgG in blood plasma. However, to prognosticate near term clinical efficiency of treatment with immunodepressive drugs it is essential that all basic indices for the cell-bound and humoral immunity be taken account of.

[Analysis of the reasons for insufficient efficacy of treating inflammatory diseases of the urogenital system in women].

Concentration of tetracycline, doxicyclin and tarivide was studied in blood serum, urine and immediately in the impaired focus, in uterine tube tissue to elucidate the factors responsible for low therapeutic efficiency of drugs involved in treatment of inflammatory diseases of women urogenital system. Content of tetracycline, detected in the patients blood and urine, varied within the limits 0.02-0.12 microgram/ml and 0.003-0.136 microgram/ml, respectively, depending on the period of administration of therapeutic doses of the antibiotic. At the same time, in uterine tube tissue concentration of tetracycline was only slightly increased and constituted 0.014 microgram/ml which was distinctly lower than the minimal inhibitory content for the antibiotic. Similar results were obtained in studies of tarivide concentrations. Both morphofunctional impairments of uterine tubes and deficiency of antibiotics in the impaired focus were responsible for inadequate treatment of women with infertility of inflammatory genesis.

[The conservative treatment of children with vesico-ureteral reflux].

The article deals with the results of examination and nonoperative treatment of 120 children with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). Their ages ranged from 3 to 13 years. The authors used a complex of methods for the examination of the functional condition of the kidneys, upper urinary tract (excretory urography, renoscintigraphy, electroureterography, clearance tests), lower urinary tract (cystography, cystoscopy, cystotonometry, urethroprofilometry, electromyography of the detrusor and its obturator apparatus), bacterio- and immunological studies (determination of the microbial number, bacteria covered with antibodies, immunoglobulins G, A, and M). The results of the study were analysed in 3 groups in which VUR was linked with normoreflexia (33.3%, group 1), hyperreflexia (48.6%, group 2), and hyporeflexia (18.1%, group 3). There was an obvious growth of cystitis incidence in patients with bladder dysfunction. The data of computed scintigraphy showed partial renal dysfunction in patients with unilateral VUR not only on the side of the affection but also in the contralateral intact kidney. It is assumed that there is a clear relation between the degree of renal dysfunction, the ureteral motor activity, and bladder dysfunction. The treatment included: (1) pharmacotherapy of neurogenous bladder dysfunction with belladonna preparations (in hyperreflex) and aceclidine (in hyporeflex urinary bladder) in optimization of the organism's bioenergetic processes; (2) percutaneous bladder electrostimulation; (3) combination of the listed methods together with cerucal. The results of treatment and the indications (absolute and relative) for nonoperative treatment of VUR in children are discussed.

[Changes in the biological properties of Mycoplasma hominis under the influence of prednisolone and cyclophosphane].

The results of experimental investigations on the influence of prednisolone and cyclophosphane on biological properties of M. hominis are presented. Changes in the morphology of mycoplasmal colonies depending on the type and dose of the preparation were stated. The virulence of mycoplasmas was found to be intensified with an increase of the concentration of prednisolone in the culture medium from 0.1 to 20.0 micrograms/ml and that of cyclophosphane from 0.2 to 20.0 micrograms/ml.

[L-forms of aerobic spore-forming bacteria isolated from urologic patients].

New data are presented on the ability of different aerobic spore-forming bacteria isolated from the organism of urological patients to produce L-forms of these microorganisms in the presence of penicillin and ampicillin. Bacillus cereus is shown to be the most resistant to these antibiotics.

[Ionizing radiations and the antimicrobial resistance of the body in warm-blooded animals].

Various aspects of ionizing radiation action on microorganisms and course of endo- and exogenous infections are considered. The immune response is discussed from the standpoint of its significance in development of infectious-inflammatory processes under conditions of radiation of a microorganism and higher radiation background. Quantitative and functional changes in the immune system of the organism subjected to radiation are discussed in detail and peculiarities of these changes under low doses of radiation are shown. The analysis of the data obtained has confirmed a decrease of the natural resistance of organism to various infectious agents of endo- and exogenous origin under the effect of ionizing radiation; the main reason of that is disturbance of the immunity system, particularly at the cellular level.
